Scott and Michael had a hilarious discussion about this movie. Scott had to bulk up for this role to seem more menacing. But during breaks in filming, Michael just went doing push-ups and such, and Scott was like 'Noooo!'

The best movie fights are a mix of realism and a bit of flash to look good on camera. The blocks were definitely for the flash, but they had great practical moves too.

I experienced getting a hand broken from blocking a kick in a krav sparring session. it wasn't a direct kick block but more of a side stepping and doing a passing type block with my left hand and the timing was of just a bit. Hand my fingers taped together for a few weeks after that. Sure made for a sucky time when it came to doing a test.

I'm a former MMA fighter and I broke two fingers in sparring blocking a kick, it was very annoying but I just taped them up and continued training almost everyday. Inevitably every training session I would jam them somehow and because of this they took around 7-8 months to fully heel and just doing anything was very awkward, especially when it was my dominant left hand

Have to say you have a cool attitude narrating these movies , you are not being narcissist about the action because you know it's just a movie .. Some people poke fun at the movies and start insulting the moves and stuff .. Really do a good job at pointing out things that would work and not work without being negative .. Great job

I'm coming up on my 19th year of practicing martial arts, been teaching part time on-and-off for a little over 10 now, and this guy isn't talking shit, I agree with almost everything he says, even though his style is competitive and mine is very traditional (I like to describe the difference as this: the main difference is mind set. Competitive is about winning the fight, whereas my school promotes self defense/survival by any means, and the best means of protecting yourself from harm is avoiding confrontations) and a lot of his terminology goes right over my head because we don't use many of those terms, and ground techniques are not our specialty. But yes, I do recommend his videos if you want informative reactions, especially from someone who acknowledges where his understand of certain subjects and styles are limited (thus: less talking out his ass)

Still not a good idea doing any of that with a trained fighter unless you're going to catch the kick muay thai style, if you guys haven't been kicked hard on the forearms or hands before by a good kicker it's not something you want to experience, that crap can literally split and expose your arm bones

You can ask anyone who does train regularly and they'll tell you the same thing, I train Muay Thai myself and I can safely tell you that in spite of the hard training you never become imprevious to damage, your small arm bones are always going to lose against the bigger and stronger leg bones, which is why a mutual defense mechanism of all kickboxing favors defending with your LEGS, not with your HANDS as the opponent always wins that trade.

A fit heavy weight boxer is likely to have strong legs, and good balance. The last factor is flexibility. You can improve that over several weeks. However, he threw a single low kick the whole fight. Anybody can do that. Bruce Lee was teaching complete amateurs to kick low rather than high. There was a flying knee, but it looks like he can do a sit up, so high knee is cake. Developing good grappling defense is definitely more implausible. We've watched actual pure boxers get wrecked on the ground in MMA IRL.
