Just thinking about the aligning of the truck. For lining up, typically people can get parallel to things easily but rarely be inline. What I found to help is to have the craft be able to crab walk. So set the axles on the truck that don't turn or are opposite, all turn the same way. It won't be a perfect 90 degree carb walk but it'll help for that last bit of alignment. Also a downward facing camera on the crane would be nice thing to have.

Hello mate I drive RoRo trucks, in regards to dragging the cargo containers up onto the truck bed, yes they do normally have wheels on the back, but they never work, so instead you just turn the handbrake off, and that will lift the front of the cargo, then pull the truck under the load, instead of the load onto the truck. Saves the big gouges into the tarmac. Whether space engineers would simulate enough friction from the cargo to move the truck is ?, but hey it might work?
@dakrayus6519Ай бұрын
And the same for unloading, get it to touch the floor, then off the handbrake and it'll push the truck away from the load. Thank Jeebus my truck has never somersaulted like that because I pulled in a piston too quickly 😂

A nice episode. The bridge crane can probably be improved a bit by moving one of the down piston/hinge arms outward one block and then putting a rotor in that space in the lower horizontal beam. You will then have to put in a new grabber below that but you will be able to then rotate the grabber to pick up angled cargo. With timers etc you can have the grabber rotate back to 0 degrees. With more timers you can also raise/lower the down piston/hinge arms to specific heights, like the connectors. If you're going to put presets in for the weld ship's welders, +/- 45 degrees might be good ideas. Also, consider a refit with grinders and a component drop off port somewhere. If you don't like the gates there are some reskin armored hangar doors that might look good and have slightly better headroom than the gate. Keep the videos coming and have fun!
@EngineeredCoffeeАй бұрын
Rotation would be cool, but I laid out the warehouse to only need the containers in that position. So lazy wins? I ended up putting a 45 deg on the toolbar in the middle of the montage. Good call. I do want to make a grinder varient to take care of the Assert bases...

the best thing to use to tell which is occupied, you need something that resembles a computer memory bank, so what i do use is pistons, i set them to a maximum distance of 0.1 and max speed, then set the event controller to that piston to see if its 0 or is it 0.1 and above then do something, when i need 2 things to happen but one thing i need to wait for then i use two pistons with yhe above settings and one event controller, put the event controller on gate so it won't trigger unless both pistons hit 0.1, you can use other event controllers to control the pistons, so its a set up like this, monitor events, set pistons, other event controllers react to setting those pistons, so its a monitor and react system and plus ofcourse newd the reset system as well , thank me later

very cool build! I haven't experimented with it myself so dont know if it is possible. But I was thinking, with the new update you can set values for pistons and rotors. So you could theoretically pre-program coordinates for the different container positions, have a button for height 1, 2 and 3. Each button activating a timer or event controller that sets the values that the rotors and pistons need to move to to get to that position. Could make the moving of the containers a lot more organized and controlled compared to doing it by hand. Just a though, great video though.

Loving that Bridge Design - I think you should call it "Clang" would fit nicely underneath the 75 Tons.. 😅 For the container truck, I think it was a smart move to go for the hinge, as the merge blocks probably would have resulted in having the container merge with the truck. The only thing that I could think of is to reverse the positions of the rotor and rotor head, so the rotor head fits under the container when picking it up. Still.. then you won't have the Attach functions on your truck. So perhaps its better like this. 😊

16:38 (On clearing the door coming out) It seems like the strength on the third axle set is a little too strong so it's lifting the rear wheels off the ground. If you leave the rear wheels strength but lower the strength on the third axle it should compress as you go over that bump and lower the clearance so it doesn't almost hit, while keeping the strength of the ride the same with the rear axle. This can also be done with the second axles so that the second set of tires behind the front tires also compress when going over a curb and not causing the front wheels to lift off the ground.
@EngineeredCoffeeАй бұрын
Good call, I will make an adjustment. Thank you for the great idea!
@shadenphoenixАй бұрын
16:03 (On the ramp to the truck door) It seems like it would be smoother and look better if you took the blast doors out and just had the ramp touch the ground itself. If you used something like the small 2x1 tips underneath then it would have a landing spot but it would not affect its angle at the very edge like that steep curb at the blast doors.
@EngineeredCoffeeАй бұрын
I tried that (didn't make the cut), but the voxels are un-even and it left a weird gap on one end.
@shadenphoenixАй бұрын
@@EngineeredCoffee Once the upper part is set in place and the hinge is locked, does it still let you place blocks into the ground so that you can extend the ramp and keep the same angle, but make it a permanent static fixture because it's now embedded in the voxels? Then you won't have to have it sitting on top of the ground, but you can still use the hinge for strength to stay there?

I just binged the whole series and imminently subscribed for more. Great production quality and magnificent designs. I just have one question/request. Could you add here and there a little time lapse of actually using the vehicles and drones you build? Because as of right now since you've built the excavator in episode 3 we've seen it in use exactly twice - both short tests. The same with the elaborate and automatic cargo drone. I really hope that's not gonna be the case with the new truck and this entire cargo warehouse. I feel like I need to reiterate that I really like this series and no changes need to happen for me to continue enjoying it. It's just that a survival series should look and feel different than a creative showcase, don't you think? If all you do is zip around with your jetpack (what are you building all the walkways for?) and constantly build new buildings and machines (with the resources seemingly magically appearing from offscreen) then for me this is a creative series and not a survival one.
@EngineeredCoffeeАй бұрын
1st, glad you are enjoying it! 2nd, Completely fair critique. You will be happy to hear I actually am out of material in this next episode and will be revisiting the iron mine and using the excavator to restock. I will try and do a better job utilizing the structure. You're right that it is supposed to be walkable.

The saddest moment is that when I go to SE, inspired by your videos, and thinking that I'm going to go and build something just as beautiful, it turns out badly. I decided, on your advice, to look at the references, I found them. And the approximate appearance of the exterior is understandable, but how difficult it is to come up with what the interior will look like.......

SE is hard that way sometimes. It's kinda like Minecraft where the walls are abnormally thick, so interiors are troublesome.

Next project suggestion, set up more timers, event controllers and button panels so that, if you use the new angle/length settings on hinges/pistons, you just have to press a 1 button to get the crane to automatically dock a cargo pod to any specific docking port. You could probably set up a few more for picking up the pods from each truck loading bay as well. Of course, this may need an extension to your small grid controller wall... and maybe a few months to programme it 🤣 That IS a very impressive crane though 👍👍 p.s. I was also going to suggest the EC idea on the cockpit to turn the welders off when you got out, but you preempted me on that one lol

Why not just make the crave basically 2 vehicles on rails? Basically similar design as the large portion of your crane but wheels would provide propulsion. The small section would have been it's own autonomous vehicle connected to the large one via merge block when in 0 position for charging and clang reduction. There is no need to permanently connect them to the base with pistons and hinges and needlessly over-complicate it.
@EngineeredCoffeeАй бұрын
You could certainly do it that way, but the controls would need to be remote and you would have to worry about battery charge. The pistons and hinges will also allow me to use the new set position function to precisely program stops at each connection.

no offense, don't mean any disrespect at all but se is all about creating and building, so building cranes and all of the above are definitely se, its not all about getting thrusters and traveling space aimlessly, honestly i rarely use thrusters especially in early game, im more of stay on the ground and send drones into space build communications network kind of guy, i hate flying in se because you have to use so many batteries and the more thrusters the more batteries, i like compact building so i hate thrusters and wish at some point they add some kind of AI rover block like they have for the flying stuff, se is a creative paradise sandbox that is all about building and creating so just throwing up some thrusters on a few batteries and calling it a ship is less se than building a crane

Would love for this compound to be published in the workshop, ive been trying to follow along and replicate as you go but some of the cuts and jumps get me lost on how you build. Also I'm no where as good as you at shaping and interior decoration.

I need to find the time, IRL work has been a bit chaotic, but I do plan to upload several blueprints. I will likely start with the vehicles, then the buildings will be separated in individual blueprints.

@EngineeredCoffee would love that, especially hemit you built! then I could project them to build a mars colony, then start my trade routes to space. Have you considered adding a large landing pad/dock for a large ship like a freighter?

So i just found your videos and honestly love the creativity :D, and i have a question for you regarding the crane carriage, why not make the crane carriage a small rover with remote control block wouldnt that be easier?
@EngineeredCoffee15 күн бұрын
Probably, but then I would have to charge it and worry about action relays to do the programming.

@@EngineeredCoffee ahh true i thot u were going to leave the roof off and was thinking of solar panels also yea i guess it would get annoying having to pop into the rover every time to move something

Sorry late reply; 3440x1440. My editing software cuts it off a little to 21:9 and HD.
