They're all great and I really appreciate your work. Thanks so much, keep it up!

@@timkinney8719 I usually start with an idea, then picture, then music to fit the picture. Sometimes I start with a picture that I randomly found. The witch in red was a figure the young boy knew all too well. As he walked along the spongy moss and thick ferns that made up the undergrowth of the old forest, the dim grey light from the sunless sky above barely reaching past the outstretched limbs of countless trees around him, he recalled what the other children had said in hushed whisper. "The witch in red has bones of iron and skin like old leather," the Jenkens boy said, "She rides a scythe through the trees, sowing teeth into the soil that grow into terrible monsters" spoke the millers daughter, "She dyes her dress in babies blood, and weaves cloaks from their hair" claimed the twins who lived down in the big house, "She spends all night dancing above a burning flame, conjuring great and terrible magics" murmured the farmerboy who was almost old enough to be a man, "She can grant wishes, but she demands a price too terrible to pay" warned the crone who sat by the well every day and gossiped with the wives. The chill air seemed to worm it's way into the boy even as he held his cowl tighter around himself but he did not turn back. He had to find the witch, no matter what. He held the golden coin in his hand tightly, enough for the metal to dig into the skin painfully, but he did not lessen his grip. The boy needed the coin, too much to even risk losing it. He hoped that it would be payment enough for one single wish. As the boy followed the long, thing groove in the dirt, he tried to quell the rising fear in his heart. His mother was sick and he would save her. He had to.

The sun was setting, not that you could see the sun this far into the old woods, but the dim gray light grew ever more dim and the boughs closed down towards him like grasping arms. The dusk shadows crept into the forest, and his eyes struggled to make out shapes around him in the growing twilight. He stumbled over roots and caught his arms on withered rose brambles, tearing his clothing. A small drop of blood rolled down his arm. He stopped and tried to get his bearings. He was uneasy, but knew he had no choice but to continue on into the darkening trees. His stomach trembled, and he closed his eyes to imagine the bright fields of flowers he would see in the morning when he returned to the village. Suddenly, a loud squawking broke his reverie. An aged crow, hitherto hidden from sight in the pine branches, startled away from its perch with a cry. Caw! Caw!...it trailed away deeper into the woods, ahead on the path. He thought he saw a light twinkle and go out, far ahead...There was no way to be sure.

@@atlanteum which short story is the best to start with?
@atlanteum2 ай бұрын
@@MartiasMuses OhBoyOhBoy... where to start!? I would begin with a few of his shorter tales which hint at the larger, darker picture painted throughout his collected works. Two of my all-time favorites are "From Beyond" and "The Festival," which really establish the Lovecraft tone. Maybe follow those up with "The Statement of Randolph Carter," "Dagon," "The Nameless City," "Cool Air" or "The Temple." If those draw you in, then definitely move onto the classics, like "The Shadow Over Innsmouth," "At the Mountains of Madness," "The Dunwich Horror" and, of course, his signature work - "The Call of Cthulhu." Interestingly, Lovecraft's fiction represents one of the first "shared worlds" of literature. He openly encouraged his friends and others to create stories that take place alongside his own. As a result, we have "Lovecraftian" tales from the likes of Robert Bloch, Fritz Leiber and even Robert E. Howard, among others. Yes... Conan the Barbarian lives in the same world as The Cthulhu Mythos! While I would strongly recommend reading his works IN PRINT [countless editions are available], as computer screens just can't replace the experience of curling up with a good book, you can find his collected works online at -www.hplovecraft.com/writings/texts/ - where you can also learn more about the life of the author and his impact on horror and popular culture.
