The 18 was my favorite between the two. I love the way you guys put a normal headstock on these. Never understood the need to do slotted with the 12 fretters. These are both big and bold, but the mahogany just is more pleasing to my ears. Thanks for sharing.

The hog 18 version just has the natural compression that clips the top end transients just enough,....so sweet. Slightly different midrange as well -- it's shifted lower. The 28 is super even with that zing on top. Both sound great.

Wow...magnifico!!!! Those are tremendous. The D-18 is my favorite, but you can't go wrong with either. Great video gentlemen!

Love any Martin dreadnought,but these (particularly the 18) are right up my street. Love 12 fretter guitars. Sweet sounding because you play a little further than normal from the bridge. Perfect singer songwriter feature. Jackson Browne uses Roy Smek Gibson's for this reason. Hate slotted headstock thought. Great that these are an alternative.

I have a late 90’s Martin D18VS from their vintage series. A 12 fret slope shoulder Hog with slotted headstock. Outside of the headstock pretty much the same guitar and it’s a cannon. Personally I love the slope shoulder dreadnought and wondered why they stopped production of this gem.

Love the D-28 Rosewood, but with 1 11/16 inch nut, short scale with Adirondack VTS top! Thanks Paul and Quinton!

They sound great but I don't like the modified low oval or the performance artist neck. Martin needs to make more guitars with the modified V!

You can order that on one of these.

I was lucky enough to get an almost flawless 12 fret '95 HD 28 with slotted headstock recently... what an instrument. The Sing Out edition...only 45 of them made.

If you really want to sound like Norman Blake, you need to play a 12 fret Martin guitar. What a great sound !

Yes, an expression of emotion. Well stated. To me, with mahogany bodies I feel the notes are more individual and focused. Rosewood has more volume, sustain, and broader range. Maybe not as focused. But… that’s MY EARS. I love 12 fret guitars. I like not reaching as far. I played classical guitar for years so I dig slotted headstocks. I’m coming up there late spring and hope to meet you guys. Thank you and Merry Christmas

Both have their own thing going on. The mahogany one is very balanced Bluegrass cannon to my ears.

Got a HD28VS 12 Fret slotted H/S. Built in 2001…….wonderful replica of the 1931 model. Lucky to find it in Denmark St. last year….been searching for one for 10 years.! 4K.
@2musiclover534 Жыл бұрын
They have an actual replica of the 1931 model in the D28 Authentic 1931. The bracing is a reproduction. It's a 12th fretter with 1 7/8 neck. It is an incredible instrument. Highly recommended.

WOW! They seem nearly "equal." One seems to have a chest voice, like singing correctly from the diaphragm. Then you play a more arpeggiated passage, and the dynamic kind of flips. They really seem to have very similar oomph in the low end. But kind a woody vs airy drive to it. Incredible sounds.

I meant to say the slotted headstock isn’t hard to string when you get used to it, I love the 18 myself 😊

Both great guitars! Maybe because of the size, rosewood overtones almost overpowering? Just my ears but seemed “boomier?” Is that a word? 😂
