Martin Amis is a brilliant novelist of our time ! He must be awarded with the Nobel Prize for Literature soon.

I read this book over 20 years ago, and never forgot what a profound impact the novel had on me. I’m a huge fan of Vonnegut, who Amis references in the afterword. Thank you for reviewing this often overlooked classic and for reminding me how much I appreciated its novel look at the Holocaust.

I got onto this book after hearing an interview with Douglas Adams where he casually mentioned the title and author and how the story is told in reverse and touches on the holocaust. I was intrigued by the premise and brought a copy. Oh boy! What a tough read! Perhaps its because I have chronic fatigue but I'm finding it exhausting! The reading of the story whilst having to continually adjust what is happening mentaly so that you are following where in time things wre occuring is hard work. Though I found the backwards descriptions of having meals or of Tod smashing his furniture very funny in an absurd way. I've had to stop twice, first time to look up a review just to see if I was making sense of what I was reading and now to watch more reviews, again to reassure me I am actually following the topsy turvy narrative properly. I'm up to the third part of the story, which I'm guessing is the final section. I hope it has the impact others have described as its such a remarkable concept. Thanks for sharing your thoughts🎉
