I met Kazan when I was 18 or 19, in the late '70s, I didn't know anything about his having named names, just that he was a great director and I loved a few of his films. He was very personable and friendly in that situation.

This is a masterful example of revisionist history. Kazan had no ethos. He only cared for his lifestyle. Traded in his friends and colleagues to keep his swimming pool.

Kazan didn't give a damn about Communism or Communists, as if there weren't any actors who were leaning that way in the Actor's Studio. He was only concerned about his career and ego. Period. Along the way, he destroyed the careers of others.

Fascinating: the new Red scare is happening right now, and the children who went through Senator Joe's version doing it now. I guess Americans taught them how to Manchurian candidate too well.
