Those aircraft are a national treasure--for both the USA and for Canada. Incredible examples of engineering success. Truly magnificent machines. Mad respect for Dev (sp?), Peter and all the FEs that operate them so professionally. It's a sad thing that they're no longer needed. If it was up to me we'd still be building new ones, lol...

The Mars aircraft are amazing. To think that they still provide a service today that no other aircraft can is a testament to the design capability of our WWII engineers, even though they were never produced in numbers and could live up to their original requirements! Thanks for taking us through this one Kermit!

What a flying machine ! mankind is capable of producing a gigant such as this and a thing of great beauty too,the wonderful condition of this aircraft and the way it is looked after is evident in this video, this is not just about any aircraft but one that requires a dedicated and specialised team to get them airborne,to marvel at the Martin Mars and see it flying is surely one of the wonders of the aviation world at least, thank you Kermit for providing us with this over the shoulder seat to see what is involved in the operation of the Mars flying boat, simply stunning and look forward now to Part 3.

Walking around in it on the ground, it seems so massive. And then seeing it fly is sort of unreal. And to think that this thing weighs more than twice as much as a Bombardier modern Q400, but has around the same power makes it even more impressive that it can actually get in the air. Thanks a lot for these videos.

Amazing that those were here in the BayArea at Alameda Base, my Dad & Mom remembered them as a teens. He served/drafted in Korea. I’m respectful of what the BayArea was during WW2- and keep the strong 🗽. Respect. 🇺🇸💪🫡

A neat Concept image the new Technologies of today like jet engines ,and fly by wire . It be interesting if Boeing uses old 737 as Water fire fighting Planes and turn these into remote control planes since fire fighting is so Dangerous love thesevseries

A magnificent machine and that is the reality of keeping these queens on the water and in the air support machinery and ground crew it takes conviction and a deep pocket on the upside if the barbie ever gets out of control you have the solution.

Back in the glory days, did they have a way to remove, store, then reattach the float/wheels within the plane? I can only imagine them landing somewhere without all the ground support.

I red there were only seven martin mars built as the Hawaii and Philippine mars are the only two left in existince the Caroline Mars crashed. as all of the surviving mars were converted to water bombers. But if kermit were to aquire one it be the Hawaii mars the philippine mars was susposed to go to the Navel museum in Pensacola Fla. if Kermit will own a mars he will have to get the equipment to move it with the beaching gear on. plus modifications to the seaplane ramp. as an engine change on the mars will have to be a big crane for the wright r-3350s plus that big service platform. as these engines are later variants of the 3350 redesigned from the b-29 3350 the exhaust from the front cylinders go out the back. to individual stacks not a collector ring on the mars. the later 3350s on the Connie and DC-7 are the turbo compound versions with 3 power recovery turbines with 3 exhausts. but interesting the mars engines have the cooling turbines on the nose sections as that was also used in the later radial engine powered helicopters the Piasecki h-21, h-25, the Sikorsky s-51, s-55, and s-58 as well as the twin engined ch-36 mojave. as the light armored vehicles had fans to cool the radial engines the m5 stuart, and others with the contential/wright whirlwind engines, the guiberson diesel radial, the version of the wright r-1820, and possibly jacobs. the Martin mars they add cooling turbines solved problems with the earlier b-29 and connie engines with the front cylinders exhaust facing foreward and high cylinder head temps. the cooling turbine combined with the later 3350 design is more reliable for the mars.
