Martin Heidegger - Introduction to Metaphysics (1/4)

Martin Heidegger was a 20th century German philosopher who concerned himself almost exclusively with the question of 'Being' his whole life.
Introduction to Metaphysics is a lecture course Heidegger presented at the University of Freiburg in the summer semester of 1935. Contrary to the title of the course, Heidegger actually seeks to go beyond metaphysics (the beings of beings, hence still concerned with beings) to the ground of Being itself. He attempts to provide some insight into Being by comparing it with becoming, seeming, thinking, and the ought, and in doing so, explains how Plato and Aristotle knocked genuine inquiry into Being off the rails, where it has remained since, waiting for Heidegger to bring it to the fore once again.
This video is part of a series which looks at Heidegger's work post-Being and Time as he tries to fathom the mystery that is Being itself.

Yes, I know. I've been putting him off for a while now. The problem is he is too 'transcendental' for me. I actually read _Ideas_ a few months back, and while it was good to finally read the source of all of this great philosophy, I wasn't like, "Oh man, gotta do a vid on this guy." Still, I think you're right; _Ideas_ has to get an airing at some point. I do have a couple of other, "Oh man, I gotta do a vid on this guy" series' to get out first, but, after that, I will get to Husserl. And thanks for the viewership. I really appreciate it. Without people like you, I would have stopped doing these vids ages ago!!

@@absurdbeing2219 well youre a great teacher (and I imagine a professor?)! Help me so much with the material I honestly am very indebted to your work. What you do is really valuable. But I honestly do agree with you on Husserl. I also started to read Ideas a few months back but it was too difficult to maintain interest so I dropped it. Hence the hope there could be a good "course" with you on it. Just feel like, ok love Heidegger, work is so quintessential, but it would be really nice to know in better depth his teacher and where these ideas had their rooting--however much Heidegger left Husserl in Being & Time. Well at any rate, thank you and carry on sir!
