I can tell you what this is for, and it’s not because they want your current account business. Very soon afterward, the bank will start plying you with offers of debt, sorry credit, of various types. Put another way, the people who could really do with the money, won’t be allowed to switch. You cannot fulfil the requirements in those cases, because the whole flap about having so much of a balance for a while, etc, is just flannel - it’s entirely about sizing you up for a debt straightjacket. If successful, you must have shown them inadvertently, you are likely to want to borrow a shedload of money in the near future - so actually you are pre-applying for a loan. That’s why I can’t do this switching, I’m no good for them. I am not saying it’s an insult to be accepted, but they are looking for a certain profile and they are checking things you may not have expected them to check. But do it, if you could use the money, just remember there is nothing that says each customer must get exactly the same charges, and the chances are they get their money back eventually. Not necessarily a reason not to do this, just be aware. Take care all.

I switched yrs ago, it was easy and I got £5 a month plus a one off payment of £125. No catches, and I've never been interested in borrowing money apart from my mortgage yrs ago. It went smoothly. They can't make you borrow money if you don't want to. It just requires a bit of effort on your part, to do the research and find a good deal. I don't know why you're so negative, are you perhaps already in debt or have some other reason why you can't switch and feel bitter

He doesn't run a bank, are you confused? Don't fall for people using his name or documents to directly contact you in unsolicited ways. You contact a bank directly to switch, get help from an appropriate adult or whoever deals with your power of attorney.

Don’t switch. As a general rule, whatever the usurious bankers suggest you do, either don’t do it or do the opposite.

Don’t switch? Why? As an ex employee of a bank and someone who is very loyal to one bank I would ask why you have the qualifications to advise this as I would advise the opposite if you aren’t totally sold with one bank and or want the switching fee then switch away.

What stops you from switching? Maybe we can help you with whatever it is you are unsure of. I currently use 4 accounts, but have a total of 13 bank apps I use for savings, wages, bills, 0% cashback cards, online shopping etc. You just need to be organised.
