Nick deserves his own country. Martin and the filth's do a great facsimile but Stuart and Nick together were truly original and creative. I mean... Nick's drumming is MELODIC?! no one else does that!

Some of Nick's iconic techniques were tools to keep the other band members in time. Because he knew more about music they they did, which is why he sought out DImmu. He wanted members with more experience. Not sure why Nick is so worshiped. He was good on a technical level, yes. But he is not better or worse than many other fantastic drummers. He was never much for the "feel" of a song. Marthus has more emotion into his work. This is prevalent in "Frost On Her Pillow". One of my favorite drum tracks. Marthus is doing incredible work for the band. I can't imagine what Cradle would sound like if Nick were still there. I believe people are just on a placebo/dopamine overdose with Nick.

@@fulgerion Nick’s highly regarded because his playing reaches people that much deeper than other metal drummers. It’s subjective. Listen to any two drummers play the same exact beat, and they’ll still sound different in their own way. What OP said about his playing being melodic is spot on. To me, Nick is more musical, soulful, melodic, intricate, etc than other metal drummers. He’s not the only guy who’s got it, but he does it VERY well. Chris Adler for example - he’s not coming up with crazy new drum vocab but his musicality is insane. Nick & Chris are *musicians*, who play atonal instruments (drums) but don’t think of them as such.

Nick Barker bloomed out in Dimmu and in Dimmu he had the chance to show how good he was, you know why? In Cradle he was ordered to drum in a specific way and no free hands because of Dani, in Dimmu he got free hands. Read an interview with Nick when they made Puritanical album, he never enjoyed his time in Cradle but he did that in Dimmu.

By far one of the best and most underrated metal drummers out there today. I have been a Marthus fan ever since I heard him play his studio version of lust mistress years ago. Ever since I have been spreading his name around he has some of the cleanest chops, and makes the best usage of all his cymbals.

Great drummer. Hearing this played like this makes you realize how amazing Barker was at composing drum parts.

Even though he is obviously going top notch and fricken insane, Nick Barker was just utterly out there with perfection.

His cymbal work feels a bit all over the place. He IS a great drummer, and I'm not even a drummer, but I feel he kinda overdoes things - the constant intensity reduces the power with which the little climaxes should hit your senses. It becomes more tiring, I think.
@grim73653 жыл бұрын
These have been Exactly my thoughts since he joined the band! He doesn’t let the other elements or instruments breathe.
@danpitts1522 жыл бұрын
totally agree. feels like he is a big fan of Nicks creativity with the cymbals and has tried to out do him by hitting 8 where nick had hit 4... more isnt always more and this leads to Marha's playing sounding a bit of a mess.

@RhysoDub Жыл бұрын
Pretty sick. Just a shame he misses the double bass fills (I’m no drummer so that is probably not the correct terminology) but just adds more cymbals instead. Nick Barker was a genius!
