The sitka spruce Vintage Tone System (VTS) top, natural protein glue construction, and dovetail neck joint give these brand new guitars a fully-aged sound. I have a 2018 "reimagined" 000-28 (now called the Standard Series) which I absolutely love. I knew I wanted a smaller body size having owned a dreadnought before (the OM and 000 have the exact same body size). At first I thought I wanted an 18 (mahogany) style, but once I tried rosewood that was it. The only real decision was the 000-28 or the OM-28. Fortunately, the shop had both, so I could do a side-by-side (which lasted an hour). A six month layaway plan later and I was finally the proud owner of a Martin 000-28 guitar!

@@646oleg What I realized was that no two guitars that are the exact same make & model sound alike. So even if I were to put a capo on the first fret of the OM, that guitar just didn't sound as good as the other one (to me).

I just played all four at NAMM. They are priced between the Standard Series and the Authentic Series. The construction is terrific and so is the tone and projection. The necks feel great---right between the modern neck and a vintage V.

You incorrectly stated that the bridge plate is made from "graphite." It's actually made from a single piece of VTS treated Adirondack red spruce sandwiched between two pieces of carbon fiber.

Need help here! i really wanted a rosewood b/s from Martin, wanting a D28 first then HD28 NOW but then i saw this MD series, made me think twice. Ive watched a lot of videos regarding with the MD series and what i noticed is the sound it produces was tad thin, bright and taylor-like. considering the top was torrefied, it kinda lacking of the famous martin-warmth and growl. makes me leaning on HD 2018 more! for that reason Should i go HD or MD? I live in new zealand so there's really no chance to "try it in store and hear the difference", they dont have stock here unless you ask to order it from retail stores. My ear and heart says HD28 but my eyes keeps telling me MD! Help please!

Hi peplays4u, hope you enjoy a martin hd28. I've listened and played many and settled on hd28 when I compared but if you can't hear it , then I would caution the purchase. But many consistencies in this model will make you happy when it arrives. Enjoy

Interesting, but I was never a fan of the HD models, compared to the standard D, to me they sound like Taylors. Same with the HD35 and D35... Probably the sound gets more 'modern' with each innovation, but give me the traditinal full and warm D sound.

Mahogany is generally underated by the inexperienced in tone wood combinations. Mahogany does have a more dry tone with shimmer ; Rosewood a wet tone with fuller base ; the experienced player will definitely want to own one of each of these standard tone wood combinations. I have some mahogany guitars that make me want to forget the rosewood guitars (but only for a while) ; I like variety , alot 😎

A friend of mine has the patent to liquid metal. The company failed but various companies licensed the rights for their fields, including Apple. It’s a real thing. Not sure why it’s good for bridge pins. I would think it’s use as a bridge would be more impact-whatever that is.

I just got a d35 and there’s a couple dead notes... they’re muffled and no sustain. They tried adjusting it... did I get a lemon or is this normal?

I don't think is normal. At least my 2 D35's are the best and I had a good D18, played D28's Have 2 Collings, Yamaha's LL series, FG2000, Levins etc, but for the D35 is the best allround guitar (I have a d35 from 1970 - my workhorse since 1974 and a 1967 D35S). Sell it, trade it in ad get a good one!

Dennis Schut I forgot to mention, that’s my 3rd D body from Martin, since writing my comment I got a 3rd (traded, not a total of) and same thing at the same area. I’ve even recorded it to see if the sound hole is different, it’s kind of boomy, not a dead note, but definitely doesn’t sustain like all the other notes near it.

more than likely your D-35 was humidity damaged. Notes fretting out on a new instrument usually means a guitar that's dried out and frets have lifted out of the slots. This is due to guitar dealers not maintaining proper humidification year-round. NEVER BUY OFF THE WALL. Buy direct from the factory, and then begin maintaining 45-55% humidity all year round where you store the guitar. If you do that, it will play beautifully basically forever. So many people get stuck with beautiful martins that have been abused and neglected by the dealers.

@@VaughnFelixMusic dude I'm so sorry you learned the hard way. Happens to SO many people. I have a picture from Sam ash of a brand new HD-28 that they let get so wet the top bellied to where the action was a mile high. To compensate, the tech shaved the saddle down to nothing. If you don't know what you're looking for, you can easily get tricked into buying "new" and have an instrument that plays horribly and whose structural integrity is compromised and not even know it. If I were you I'd sell the D-35 and get what you can for it, and buy a new D-35 directly from Martin. If you can't go direct, go through sweetwater. Their inventory is always fresh and it's a good time of year to buy because it's not too dry or cold. As soon as you get it, use the D'addario humidipacks and keep it in the case. Maintain 45-55% ambient humidity all year round and I promise you your martin will be sturdy and play like a dream forever. I am living proof. My d-35 hasn't budged since the day I bought it and I measure with a stewmac action gauge every couple days. Humidification is SO IMPORTANT both in terms of avoiding overhumidification and drying out.

He talks and plays very quietly. Could I ask if anyone knows which of the models shaped like Taylor Grand Auditorium is the closest in size. Just looking here and on Martin site they all look smaller. I am 6'2" and Grand auditorium size fits me perfectly. I have a 314ce and love size, build quality, playability etc but am now realizing I don't care for "V" brace sound like I thought I did when I bought it and want to sell it. Did not care for the Martin sound on the comparably priced GPCPA4 which has same tone woods. I assume the higher end models sound at least somewhat differently than GPC. I can finally consider a high end guitar. Been looking at Gibson's from J-45 through a Dove or even a SJ and Martin up through HD-28 and D-28. But love that tight waist GA shape a lot...so comfortable to hold on your lap and play compared to a dread Only have seen and heard these guitars online. No GC nor any private shops in my area have any kind of selection worth the trip...it is a minimum 2 day trip trump a guitar shop with a large Martin and Gibson selection and even then they are bound to not have everything I would like to try in person. Don't know how others in this situation deal with finding their perfect guitar. Would have to fly all over the country that visit the large stock shops seen here on YT.

The D-28 MD version seems much like the discontinued D-28 Marquis but no Adirondack top, no modified v neck (acquired taste perhaps), smaller spacing; 2 5/32" compared to Marquis 2 5/16" at the bridge. Both have the adjustable truss rod but the MD version is a lighter titanium. The bridge plate (carbon fiber on the MD) and liquid metal bridge pins (MD) would be improvements over the Marquis theoretically. I much prefer the wider spacing at the bridge and the adirondack top on the Marquis. Both are EIRW back & sides.

The OM version isn't a "modern neck." It is almost identical to the 1930 OM-45 it is based on. The heel isn't as sharp and the it has a little less bulk where the heel turns into the neck, but it is otherwise virtually identical. All the other MD models have the narrower modern fretboard taper. But the OM does have 2-1/4" string spacing, so it is the same as the Laurence Juber models and the OMs from the before the "Reimagined" remake a year ago. A touch narrower than the OM-28 Authentic.

Man, everyone complaining about the price here. It has protein glues, baked top, Adirondack bracing, wood binding, and other luxury appointments. The prices for these guitars are very reasonable for what you're getting.

I'd love to hear comparisons with the new Deluxe D-28/D-18 vs Authentics and Golden Era (Marquis) guitars (equal strings). I'm very happy with my 2008 D-28 Marquis and 2001 D-18GE. Doubt I would ever sell either (my youngest son is shortly to get the D-18GE).

I have a 2012 Martin Custom Shop D-21, built to authentic standards. I also have 2019 D-18MD. I’m very happy with the D-18MD, but I much more prefer my D-21. Again, I love my D-18MD, but if I were given a choice between that and a D-18GE, I would probably go for the GE. I was actually looking for a GE, but I’m a lefty, I couldn’t find a GE, but the MD was available so I went that route. I do like the wood binding, light feel of the titanium truss rod, and the inlaid Martin logo. I would think the MD would win the beauty contest, but the GE would win the talent show😊. Sounds like you have a couple of nice Martins on your hands

@@wayneosman8971 Martin makes a quality product. I don't recall them advertising their Standard and Modern Deluxe Series guitars as as anything but that. Quality costs money. They do produce quite a few models that are affordable to most people with a job, if the premier models a more than someone wants to spend. I can afford every model they make, by the way, so "affordable" is a relative term. Do you expect them to give the guitars away? Should the people who make them not get paid well for their expertise? If you don't want one, or are satisfied with something less expensive, then take that other option. No one is holding a gun to anyone's head to buy a Martin. A lot of people appreciate what they get for the money and buy Martins. The company would not continue to be successful if they produced an inferior product and depended on people buying for the name alone. Word travels fast.

@@patrickmorgan4006 There is no argument of Martin Quality, I simply do not like the feel of playability and hate the overall sales pitch, Too be polite, I don't need a song and dance about Martin Guitars. If we lived in a world where choice wasn't an option, then Martin would be it. There's more to what I wrote than you are willing to believe. For instance Taylor has the perfect neck and overall appeal. Taylor also gets much of its material from trees that cost much more to harvest and yet their prices are matched. If you own anything other than Martin you would understand. As for your remark about a Job, I don't have one I'm retired. As for my guitars they're all American Made Guild, Gibson, Fender and I've reached my limit of seven guitars. I even have a Cordoba Flamenco and it's hands down better than Martin's classical model. Even thou Martin Classical was cheaper I chose Cordoba because it played and fit well. Be open minded and accept the fact that all the bells and whistles mean absolutely nothing. Of the many Martin guitars I've played I never owned one. I just never found any of there mass produced models worth buying, but they looked nice.

@@wayneosman8971 Apparently you have never owned a D28. I gigged with one for many years (a 1958 model). It sounded great into a mic - almost like a piano. It is not a "showpiece" at all in my opinion. Rather it is the best sounding guitar you can play. Now if you are playing with a pickup instead of into a mic it really doesn't matter much what guitar you play.

@@bobaldo2339 This discussion was how Martin and many other brand name companies sell musical instruments for a higher cost by simply installing add-on components that are cost effective or adding a persons name to their already great higher end models to promote sales aimed at a misinformed public. All musicians will have to decide sooner or later what works best for them. Marketing ploys will always be used by companies to sell what works otherwise they wouldn't use them. In a recent article Washburn promoted one of their model guitars and stated they have been around for 130 years and are producing a similar Washburn dreadnought to one of their models made circa 1912, guess what people will buy them. Getting back to your statement owning a D-28 or any Martin is great. However any company using gimmicks or add-ons, then asking an additional $1000.00 for same item originally costing less is misleading. Make no mistake Martin makes fine guitars backing them up with a decent warranty you won't get elsewhere. My no name 67 mahogany guitar still plays but I have it for sentimental value only and because at the time it's all my paper route could afford to me.

I think your argument is reasonable up to a point... I think that a cheap/affordable instrument can be played to a very far extent but at one point it does limit your playing and your development by a lot. I've experienced this these past few months when I rented a couple of high-end guitars after consistently playing affordable models for a while and honestly I've felt like I developed by a whole lot more in a lot less time with the more expensive ones.

I played a lot of guitars that are nice and "affordable" of different brands.. but when i played a martin.. and owned a martin... it made me play everyday... practice was easier and inspired me to play even more... it wasn't about the price... but the feel, the tone, the effect it has when you play it is just heaven.. when a guitar speaks to you and expresses your soul.. the price doesn't matter. Sometimes buying the expensive guitars especially martin, appreciate in value.. and its resale value is better than other brands..

@@mr20barefoot I played my first taylor 610 1 1/2 years ago the feel, the tone, the effect it has when you play it is just heaven. I couldn't afford it. The point that everyone should buy a Martin or any other Manufacturers product is irrelevant. If you read my musicians view. Every instrument has a value. Value can be regarded that something held to deserve; the importance, usefulness or value can be one's judgment of what is important in life. At this moment many musicians are deciding whether to learn on what is affordable and practical before making that magical leap and continue on their way of becoming a. As a Journeyman Musician I decided to learn music before settling down and buying any instrument.
