Don't know about in the US but over here regs require that pipes/cables have a marker, a coloured plastic mesh, buried above them so that if somebody is digging they will come across the mesh way before they hit the pipe. The colour indicates what is buried.

Hi Martin and Julie!!! Alfredo here from Havana, Cuba... Nice work there joining the house and the garage!! By the way, why don't you put your solar panels on the roof??!! You could put a lot more of panels, that would make more KWp, ergo more power for the house (you could even plan for AC on the house and the garage)... and, with the panels up there, you could make the most of the solar energy, less shading means more energy, more power for you guys... what do you think??!!
@stephensaines71003 жыл бұрын
Not necessarily better. In a clear setting, output would be the same, and servicing would be a lot harder on the roof, not to mention compromising the roof integrity, and perhaps increasing insurance rates.
@Songomx3 жыл бұрын
@@stephensaines7100 But solar panels, in the current position, are shaded for some parts of the day; hence, are being inefficient and not giving the solar power expected from them...

When building I always have a set of as build plans that items like the buried gas line gets measured and but on the plan for future reference. It has saved me many a times. Also pictures lots of pictures. A bonding agent could of been used on the existing concrete so the new sticks to it. ie: watered down white glue. Gas line should have had a tracer wire and ID tape buried half way. No other wires allowed in the trench here.

I do concrete for a living. I'm not sure what it costs for you ready mix from the plant but I can almost guarantee you that it's cheaper than bag. Last time I figured it was over 3 times the price per yard and you have the work of mixing it. I understand its probably more expensive there but I would check before doing much.

At 10:50-ish you said there was going to be a 10’ deck with posts 5’ out. That will be a see-saw. Please google DCA-6 for recommended deck construction standards. It clearly spells out the support required for cantilevers based on joist span, joist depth, wood species and desired cantilever length. Depending on your joist size, your posts will end up more like 7-1/2 ‘ out from the home. Oh yeah, and please wear safety equipment. We are all pulling for you and do not want to see anyone hurt now or down the road when you should be out sitting on that deck enjoying your efforts!

One thing that I learned how to deal with those 80 pound bags of concrete mix easier is to lay the bag (in the middle) on top of a piece of rebar on the ground, take a box cutter and cut side to side width way (directly in line with the rebar underneath) then grab each end of the rebar and pull upwards in a rocking motion until you rip through the paper. That 80 pound bag now just made 2 40 pounders! way easy!! :) Also you might want to invest into a cement mixer from home depot around $300 but well worth it.

Hello, folks. =) Nice job, excelent results. One tip though... sometimes, if you have a hammer drill (the one with option to just hammer) you can use it as a vibratory source on the form, obviously in the only hammer setting.. ;) It works fine, as long you use it often.. The stick method is also ok, but it's laborious and you can't get sometimes in tight spots or around the armature.. depends on the design.. Keep on, getting closer every day. Anyway, I would avoid grinding concrete for better bonding reasons. =)

I love cement.... to walk on. As far as mixing and pouring, its for the birds as my back still hurts after twenty years ago bucketing a wall that was twenty feet long and almost ten feet high and six inches thick. No more five gallon buckets of going up a ladder in a crawl space to do the wall by hand. I have never moved so fast trying to keep up with four eighteen year old kids doing the hand over hand and finish a wall cause we didn't use the pump truck so the guy could save a few dollars. Hope that you had a great fourth
