Der amerikanische Saxophonist Steve Grossman trat bereits im Alter von 16 Jahren mit Elvin Jones auf. Seine professionelle Laufbahn begann, als er 1969 Nachfolger von Wayne Shorter in der Fusionband von Miles Davis wurde. Er trat mit ihm 1970 im Fillmore West auf, zu hören auf dem 1977 erschienenen Album Black Beauty: Miles Davis at Fillmore West. Mitte der 1970er Jahre war er Mitglied von Gene Perlas Band Stone Alliance; seitdem ist er als Leiter eigener Bands aktiv. Seit Ende der 1970er Jahre lebt Grossman überwiegend in Frankreich und Italien.Hier eine Aufnahme aus dem Alten Pfandhaus in Köln .Wir bedanken uns an dieser Stelle recht herzlich für die Unterstützung des Alten Pfandhauses bei der Erstellung dieser Aufnahmen.

Steve stayed in Tel Aviv for about 4 months in 1984. He giged a lot with my trio (Eli Magen bass and Arale Kaminsky drums). We had a terrific time together but his drug addiction created problems and he had to leave the country. A true Jazz giant with impeccable time, fantastic melodic flow and what a sound. May he R.I.P .
