I think that it was good that he went out standing tall and not retiring and getting sick if the reference to MS was given earlier. He deserved that. I loved the show and looked forward to watching it through its entirety. Great writing! Great acting. When we connect with the characters and feel for them, then the actors have done a good job.

Another brilliant series, with Martin Shaw and his worthy co-stars, thanks for some truly gritty telly. Thanks must also go to the script writers

Thanks for the info! Just discovered George, recently, and wanted to learn the "ins & outs", of the series.

George gently do not have to die because the series is over. He could have retired and live a peaceful and happy life ever then after. He is such a good actor.

this was such an excellent show, the writing, the acting, the chemistry between all of the main actors... the ending was heartbreaking, to see one truly good man with integrity cut down, he deserved a retirement and happy ending as did we, to see the murderers come to justice. It's far too many wrongdoers ho escape justice, it would have been satisfying to have his wife's murderer imprisoned and corrupt police as well.

Read the books. 47 written between 1952-1999. Hello from Australia. A great character is George played by a fine actor.

I think it is very sad when a series comes to an end and we know there will be no more. The same with DCI Banks with the death of Annie but that is the nature of television and we, the viewers, have to learn to live with it......sadly.

This is my one 'look forward to' show of the week, I love it. It would be great if 'John Bacchus' continued - I have really enjoyed his expressive character. (I do enjoy ~The Durrell's too!)

Which episode was better. George gently shot. Inspector morse, heart attack, Or Poirot's death. There should be a top ten for this because I'm sure there are others

They could make a new series with George's long lost brother, Buggerme in it.

I loved all the episodes. But this last one was poorly done. Such a great duo and even Rachel with great stories and superb police examples. Just to have him die without honor or justice was wrong. More episodes with Bacchus and Rachel and an occasional appearance by George would have been a nice way to continue the series.

Would have enjoyed this more without the atrocious, phoney noise which distracted from the storyline. Finally gave up...too awful!

I love the series and hated to see it conclude. You just knew George Gently was going to get killed in the end by the corruption he fought so hard against. I did not appreciate the anti-American sentiment throughout the last few series', but I put this show in the same category as Foyle's War, Shetland, Home Fires, DCI Banks, Luther, Endeavor, Broadchurch, Case Histories, Grantchester, Happy Valley, and so many other British treasures. So, what to watch next?

I‘m not anti-American, but some of the criticism of British policies is justified (‘turning the country into an aircraft carrier‘). Harold Wilson‘s foreign policy was contradictory, and UK-US relations were sometimes strained, especially during the Vietnam War, but he was way better than the Tories and, by the way, also better than Bush‘s Poodle later on.
