Ray Brown was my lifeboat mate on the 1991 Jazz cruise in the Caribbean for Dizzy. We never sank but it was cool to know that Ray and I would make any damned thing float if it came to that.

wow ! this is a rare treat indeed. Fantastic historically important vid. BTW Cooper was a very under-rated saxophonist.

Man, I loved that place. On Cahuenga just below Hollywood Blvd in Hollywood. Saw Roland Kirk there, 'Trane, Bags, and many others. It's an Indian restaurant now. Shows how much we pride our cultural gift to the world. Used to see Shelly at Art's Deli in Studio City a lot. Reading the paper and having one of Art's masterpiece pastrami sammiches. Shelly gone. But Art's still making good eats. Check it out.

This footage is priceless, wonderful music, top notch performances, the audience is so engaged and close to the action. I wish I could have been there having a few beers and enjoying that great ensemble after a day on the beach. Beautiful West Coast sound!

did you ever meet a sweet, shy black guy there in his late 20s or early 30s who was a gifted saxophonist?
