Thank you for this video! It has really helped me to understand where to place the second set and what to do. The idea of being on a clock really helps!

i just want to say: i followed the method and approached you've used by watching these videos. they worked very well for my puggle and westie--they are both rocking weave poles in agility. thank you!

I have just about finished training my new dog on the 2x2 method - it's amazing! But I agree, you have to modify what suits your dog. Very cute that Zelda jumps out of the last set of poles, my Min Pin 'Alfa' does that too :)

Love your videos with super cute Zelda!! I'm very new to agility with my 11 month old border collie/malinois Sadie - would love to see the steps you broke the weave pole training down to as you suggest in this video. Also - do you have videos on flatwork for handling in agility? I'm very eager to learn with my puppy - but I am in France so can't just come work at MartinisRanch..

I used this video to do the 2x2 weave with my dog, and it has worked wonderfully! My dog has a great, super speedy weave. Only problem is that she's too fast and hard for the weave poles. I've tried 3 different types of weaves and each one breaks. The only ones that don't break are the ones used in my agility class, which are extremely expensive. Any advice on really sturdy weaves for a fair price?

All these training youtube videos show examples with dogs that are already trained. So none of them ever miss? What to do if they MISS the poles? (don't go through?) So none of these videos are of that much help. Our first time dogs won't typically go through every time or even most of the time. How to handle a miss?

+Ron Kramer When they miss their entry, which I still do with my boy as we are kind of in the middle of the process, they just get a "whoopsie" or neutral reaction, don't throw the toy, bring them back and try again. We started it from the very beginning as a shaping exercise so you stand facing the poles and wait for them to decide to go through on their own and throw the toy once they are committed. That way they develop the drive to go for the poles of their own accord like Zelda does here. If they miss, after they have had some initial shaping work, then generally it's too much movement too fast. I start five feet back then take one step left, then another, then another, until I'm beside them and he will take the correct entry. After that work the other direction, then start again from five feet further back and repeat the same process. Once the dog is solid in this then it is time to add a second set of 2x2s. Hopefully that helped, but I am still quite new to this as well.

thanks - my post was OLD - my Bella has this nailed really was doing it in 10 minutes with my body push. Does 12 on command now... really only took about a week. 2 weeks to really nail it. I do have to work on standing on her left though - she liked me on her right when entering.

Also - you say "GO" and she goes, but shouldn't he get a command that sends her to the "weave poles" - as in saying "weave" or something?

+Ron Kramer I use the cue GO for my boy as well for weaves. Gogogogogogo comes out of the mouth faster and easier for me than weaveweaveweaveweave. It's just whatever works best for you and your dog. Some of the people in my club use go, some use weave, poles, BRRRRRRRRRRRRR!, SHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!, whatever they use consistently.

+* EeveeEvolutioner53 * Amazon has a lot. I purchased a tunnel (around 39.00) and a nice set of weave poles (59.00) but they have all different price ranges from small dogs at home prices to big dogs at pro locations (tunnels of 200+)

+* EeveeEvolutioner53 * I use very "redneck" methods for my training. For contact work I have a 2x10 board that has been painted. Made a PVC frame to turn it into teeter. For my weaves, I use temporary electric fencing posts meant for livestock. All you need is the theory. If you join a good club you also can use the standard competition equipment to make the connection with your dog, but ultimately the foundation skills are much more important than the equipment you work with.

For dogs who are not toymotivated, I suggest using a lotus ball. A ball that velcros open/closed that can hold treats. You just have to spend the time to help them Learn they can open it and get the treats themselves before using it in training. Check cleanrun.com
