Same car here. Very reliable. Kind of a pain to work on with the computer and all, but overall its probably the best car I've ever owned (had 17 other cars). The 330i is kind of slow, but if you flog it and keep it over 4000rpm it starts to move okay. The engine loves to rev, so that's not so bad.

I just finished my upgraded turbo N54 335i e92 M-Sport in Lemans Blue. I've come from driving e30, e36, and e46 and let's just say there's a reason I stuck with the n54 platform. They take to mods so well it's hard not to want to drive anything else. They come with higher costs of maintenance but when they work they work. I did a full engine reseal and replaced all of the known issues and am comfortably sitting at 450whp on 93 and it's a joy to drive. If you do your work yourself I would highly recommend one but if you take your car to a shop beware it'll cost you.

Bought one as my first car-easily the best financial mistake of my life. This thing put a smile on my face every time I drove it. I learned a bunch of mechanical stuff with it too. Sure, it’s expensive to own, but damn, it’s worth it. Here’s what I replaced over 3 years: Valve cover + gasket (made of plastic, so it stops sealing properly after years of heat cycles) Oil pan gasket Oil filter housing gasket + oil cooler gasket Power steering reservoir Water pump/thermostat That’s pretty much all the BMW-specific stuff. Besides that, I replaced: Spark plugs and coils (had a bad coil causing misfires) All suspension components (overly complicated but worth it for the amazing driving feel) All 4 wheel bearings (they went bad within a year) Wheel speed sensors (caused issues during Canadian winters, leading to no ABS or stability control) Axles Main engine feed wire (since the battery is in the back, the wire rusted out near the bottom-no idea why, but it was crazy expensive to replace). Eventually, I sold it, and honestly, I regret it. I’m now a Mk7 GTI owner, but the E92 was something special. It’s the best love-hate relationship you’ll ever have. Just be prepared to give it a lot of love and attention-because it’ll need it. That said, it’s hands-down the best car for smiles per gallon;)

One thing I don’t hear mentioned is it is the last generation of car that is mechanical but has just enough technology in addition to being hundreds of lbs lighter than modern cars. You can buy for $10k more or less, bolt ons and tune, you’re keeping up with modern sports cars for 1/4 the price. The torque is amazing every time. Give the car a proper diff, upgrade the turbo(s) so they can hold to redline even with casual fuel/tuning, and the family sedan will be transformed. (Suspension is a given but n54’s particularly lack in those two departments)

I daily my 2009 bmw 335i e90. If you’re questioning whether it’s worth it to buy this car despite the problems that come up, I’m telling you it’s 100% worth it. The driving experience in one of these cars is the best you can get for the price. If you are looking at getting one and it’s over around 90-100k miles, make sure the turbos have been replaced or else you’ll probably have to do it, and it’s not an easy job. Every gasket on the engine leaks. Most are easy to get to when you replace them, but the oil pan gasket is really hard to do. Most parts for these cars you can get for pretty cheap, and if you can work on the car yourself the money side of it isn’t that bad. I’ve owned my car for almost a year after owning a 2011 g37 coupe. It’s so much better despite the issues

Got a E91 with a N54 ST swap, on a 6mt twin disk, it's a blast, WHEN IT WORKS. - cheap - fast - easy to work on - a LOT of parts : new, used, aftermarket, mods, etc. - Forums and fb groups are VERY active - DME and other module ''unlocked'' so coding, tuning are insanely easy and cheap. - can be reliable with a N52 - N52 can make insane power for a N/A engine, on a budget. - So many options on those cars, that is very fun to retrofit. - auto, dtc or manual available - RWD or AWD available. AWD are so fun when you can play with xDELETE. so yeah I have ton of fun with my 600bhp wagon and can go camping with my kids and wife !

It cost far far too much and you had to be an ultra enthusiast to really have and daily drive a big power nice car. Or you had to have very deep pockets! The N54 changed all of that and I don't really know if any car before that that you could just do a tune on and gain 100hp and tq instantly which would then drive like a luxury car as well!

BMW evolution as an enthusiast, explained. 1) each generation is fairly drastically different, the lineage isnt nearly as strong as porsche between generations. Because of this, each car is drastically different, so much so, that it takes a while before you start to notice the similarities and the "m3 DNA" actually starts bleeding through. E30-E36 (lets use the euro for this example) heavier, larger, far less "because racecar DTM", but also nearly 300 hp from a ITB inline 6, and an absolutely confident but playful chassis. Lets also remember the e36 interior is abysmal in quality and the stupid steering column doesn't adjust at all. E46 in the USA was drastic, 100hp gain, weight, different sheet metal than the base, and a modern ish feeling wider chassis which loses the "rails" feeling and instead gains a good amount of torsional rigidity diagonally making it feel less playful at a lower threshold like the e36, but ultimately more capable. E9x, V8 in the m3, way heavier, and the n54 turbo cars are beating the v8 in straight line speed for far less than the sticker price difference between the two, and they failed to address the rod bearing issue which was already plaguing s54 and s85. F8x, DUMB THEY CHANGED THE COUPE TO SOME MADE UP M4 NONSENSE, ELECTRIC STEERING IS THE DEVIL etc, but lighter, incredibly fast, class leading interior, and weight fell from e9x. and now the G8x are super heavy, ridiculously fast, and numb and still in my opinion look terrible aside from the m2 but no car that small should be 3800lbs. BUT... once you get past all of that, and you live with each one for a while, the M3 dna comes through, you start to notice it hiding in areas, a connection to different points in its past, and thats the point where you come to terms with the things that are different arent necessarily bad and you realize the things you like about an M3 are still there, but they need time to shine through, because lets face it, german cars are rarely known for their "soul". Its also important to realize that what you think makes an m3, isnt what makes an m3, because those things are all drastically different across generations yet some how, still have a feeling of being similar and related.

I used to have a 2011 335i (n55 3.0L 400hp) was full bolt ons and it was a dream to drive had it for 70k miles on apex arc-8’s and bilstein coilovers. Sadly I got t boned by a lady going thru a left yield and was totaled.

And thats why I run watermeth to clean my valves overtime, best part is that windshield wiper fluid is so cheap and contains tons of methanol!

I'm just patiently waiting on my direct injection delete wiring harnesses. That will solve the problem of high pressure fuel pumps and index injectors... Oddly enough I've had my N54 for about 4 years and have never had a water pump issue.

ATS Carbon cleaner helped my car. After that treatment it was like having a brand new engine. Insane product.

Love my pre lci E90 328i, other than the few times it left me stranded but it's been great 🤓

i have a e60 project (its a early model so it has the m54 thats in the base e46's) so idk it would be cool to see you make a video about the E60 since it has a wide range of motors and stuff

I think the E92 M3 really kicked off the luxury performance arms race between the Germans and Japanese brands. During that time you had the first Lexus ISF, Mercedes C63 AMG, Audi RS5, and further below those performance specs, you had the Acura TL Type S, the Infiniti G37 and G35, Lexus IS 350 FS and the Mazda RX8.

My E90 M3 has been my reliable daily for years. It's comfortable when taking it easy, and has a fun personality on a back road. Just get the rod bearings replaced.

To me, the E92 is the best looking 3-Series out there. Doesn’t even need to be an M3. M-Sport package bumpers on it and it’s gtg!!
