Phantom Manor and its Frontierland are perfect examples of good theme park storytelling. It’s not in your face where it comes off as desperate or cringey like a lot of modern theme park stories. Instead, whether you’re in the queue, a gift shop, or strolling around, there’s just that looming feeling that there’s a reason behind everything you’re seeing. Phantom Manor was the first time as an adult where I walked off a ride genuinely wanting to know more about the story. Thanks for these Martin, your videos always help bring appreciation to the insane detail that goes into these things. Nice new voiceover too!

As French speaker. You got it right. Our DLP Frontierland has probably the best layout, a Wild West feature which called Thunder Mesa. Like you mentionned in your comment, it's got a storytelling which is true. Most likely the Whole Frontierland is connected with the backstory of Phantom Manor. Even Thunder Mountain The owner of this Haunted Mansion is the one who runs the Big Mine Company Henry Ravenswood I know the Story very vell. I've done the original ride many times as a kid and teen before it was refurbished (before 2017)

It's the best Haunted Mansion. Our French Phantom Manor. The only one that looks scary, creepy and delapidated on the outside in all of Disney Park. Also the only ony where you walk through the front door 🇫🇷🏚️😈👻🎃🕸️🕷️

The amount of work and effort you put into this...! Thank you so much. As someone who likely will never be able to go see this version of the Mansion personally, I really appreciated how you filmed the details. Especially the stretching room scene! Its impossible to get observe all of those in one sitting with a camera, and it was amazing to see the effect flow in no hurry from each portrait. I especially appreciated all the angles and different shots you stitched together so we could better understand the breadth of the attraction's scenes, which for years have been difficult to understand as an onlooker. Thanks!

One of my fave Disney books is the big one on Haunted Mansion with the "tours" of each one. A shame this lost some of the more sinister touches but still a great ride and a terrific look at its history.

Phantom Manor is so unique of the other Haunted Mansions. I love the focus of it being set in a Western setting. The fact it had a more narrative works so well. I love all the Disney Haunted Mansions

Martin's videos are second to none! I love seeing all the environmental details, and I appreciate how many ride throughs it took to capture full scenes. I really wish that the restored effects/improved lighting of the refurb hadn't come at the cost of the story. The new scenes become repetitive in their attempt to hammer in the backstory (How many scenes of a static Phantom creeping over Melanie's shoulder did we need?) and aren't as visually interesting and evocative as what they replaced (ex: the "All is Vanity" boudoir and the skeletal Melanie). Also the original sympathetic Melanie >>> the cartoonish cacking "insane" Melanie from the refurb. Way too similar to Constance from the US parks.

Indeed. As French speaker. I can tell you our Phantom Manor is the best Haunted Mansion when it comes to storytelling. The only one that looks scary and dilapidated with a creepy cementary. Also the only one where you walk in through the front door. You literrally walk in through the front door while the other you go past it What's even cooler, the Whole Frontierland is connected with the backstory of Phantom Manor. Even the Big Thunder Mountain The Owner of the Mansion is the one who runs the Big Mine Company Henry Ravenswood

The English speaking voice is vincent price but they couldn’t use it when it first opened because the French government wanted just a French speaking person doing the voice but when they did the refurb the French government allowed Disney use the English speaking voice as well as the French voice.

Yes there's good theme park storytelling in Phantom Manor and in Frontierland. But there's times where some story beats don't work for everyone, especially in Phantom Manor. As for me, I am happy that the mystery of who the phantom in Phantom Manor is is solved. And I love the detailing of the attraction in the original and updated versions. Madame Leota is a treat to see for me no matter where she is. However, I don't like how Melanie went from sympathetic to basically taking the hitchhiking ghost spot of the phantom aka Henry Ravenswood (I understand she'd gone mad from being trapped in the house for so long, I mean who wouldn't? But I feel like it was forced storytelling wise.). And I would've liked more of a mix of the old with the new (i.e. keep the four suitors but also bring Jake in as well. And have the original stretching portraits alongside the newer ones, showing the curse that Melanie and her family are stuck with.) and more reason of why Henry was overprotective (now that we know Henry Ravenswood is the Phantom, I feel like it could come off as creepy, abusive, and/or incestuous in the wrong context if we don't get the reason why he's become overprotective of his daughter. Like a certain someone from one of my sister's favorite shows said, "Evil is not born, it is made."). If they must have Melanie take the hitchhiking ghost spot, why not have her desperately plead for help before being scared away by the Phantom shaking the carriage like in the original? I'm not someone who creates animatronics or theme park rides, but as a storyteller I would've done that. But to each their own.
