Volvos, especially the estate cars are horrible bangers. Very weak at the rear they are. What I find particularly unsettling is the lack of preparation to any of the cars. They still have glass, no 'H' frame in case of a roll-over. I bet there's no floor plate in the drivers foot-well as well.

Nice to see some genuine bangers in the true sense of the word. Minimal preperation on common cars that are currently destined for the crusher but got the chance to go out in a blaze of glory. Im all for it. I do however struggle to understand the logic of spending £2000 upwards and weeks of prep on a mk1 Granada coupe or a Westminster to smash to bits "cos it's rare" it just seems idiotic and crass when a £100 E39 or something would drift the same and look like a trodden on coke can at the end just the same. It's sad that there seems to be some sort of cock waving competition to see who can spend the most and smash up the rarest thing. I do get that there's some older classics that are too far gone for anybody to restore them but rotten cars don't win races. Rock solid never been welded ones do.

There are "proper" races on these sorts of tracks too, with similar cars (there's a bewildering array of classes with different performance mods allowed or disallowed). I guess you could call those the British equivalent of NASCAR, only entry to the stands and to the racing itself is considerably cheaper, and nobody outside of their immediate family have any idea who the drivers are.

Metal Mayhem in Oregon, Illinois does stuff like this. You guys all need to check it out. School bus derbies to trailer racing and even a ski racing. They weld skii's go the wheels. Take the tires off and weld it up on front wheel drive vehicles. Check it all out. Oregon, Illinois raceway.

Anyone else find this quite depressing. Why do people get off on seeing things wrecked. These cars were once brought home from showrooms & polished & took families on holiday & home for Christmas & rushed a pregnant wife to hospital the baby home... Yeah this all might sound a bit soppy but real car enthusiasts don't destroy cars (scrap bound or not). How many future classic cars were destroyed in the 70s & 80s like this.. I'm sure I'll be shot down in flames but I'm also fairly sure a few may find this a bit sad too...
