Being from the actual city of El Paso, Texas, this song and his "El Paso" song make me beam with pride. We're not a NY, LA, or Nashville, but we have history that other cities do not. If you are reading these comments, I invite you to my city to see what Marty Robbins was talking about. It's different now, but the essence of the story still reigns true when you go to Rosa's Cantina on Doniphan Drive not far from the actual Rio Grande and Mt. Cristo Rey. Thanks Marty for making my city famous twice. Whenever I drive in and approach the county line, I always play this song and the "El Paso" song.

It was in that fall of 1996 when I met and fell in love with the most beautiful woman I had ever seen. Due to a quirk of fate, I did not find the courage to make her my wife, although I believe today that she wished for it. Now, 27 years later, I am a "full bird" Colonel. I have never been married. And not a single day passes by on which I don't think of my beautiful Angel and those days back in El Paso.

The lady who who operated it told us he had been there most of the morning, but had just left to meet with MCA repesentatives about the upcoming awards show. I got a shirt that had a picture of him sitting on the hood a corvette. Also bought a license plate with his name on it, that I still have and moves with me wherever I live. Within ten years after his death country music songs started to sound so much alike that by the early 90s I was no longer a country fan.
