Great singer… I just drove by Marty’s childhood home at 5804 West Myrtle, Glendale Az. After 60 years I realized we I went to the same elementary school years later that Marty went to.

I was fortunate to see a late show at the Opry in 1965 where Marty shows up and stays on stage for like 2 hours. It was Midnight when he left. The best show I ever seen, not to say the Best singing I ever Heard, Bar None. I went on stage and I was dressed up and I guess people thought I was part of the show. Ha. I would not think you could get away with that today because of security. The best show ever in my life and I was 18 years old at the time. I went back stage and even sang with a group. I could not tell you who they were. And I never realized what a great time I had that night. I returned in 1967, but, it wasn't the same. I was expecting a show like the summer of 65, but although, a good show, the '65 show, could not be topped.

I first heard this song when I was a kid, it was sang by the Norman Lubuff group, I purchased the record. It is nearly 60 years ago, now I listen to it nearly every night sang by Marty Robins on U tube. Sadly you are gone, but your songs is eternal.

A Floyd Tillman classic. First released in 1938 by Cliff Brunner and his Texas Wanderers. Floyd would have enjoyed Marty Robbin's versipn though. God bless and keep you. My Angel Bear, Shannon Burns left us to be with Jesus Christ. From her notes. My Bear I love you for eternity. Your Denny.

Harold Wilson, I was prepared to make the correction about Floyd Tillman being the writer of this song but you beat me to it. For what it's worth, Floyd sold the rights to the song to Jimmy Davis but bought them back some years later.
@kingofgames70016 жыл бұрын
I love the Band's "It makes no Difference." IMHO, it was the best song on the Last Waltz.
@walliegirl22 жыл бұрын
Agree, it was the best song on the last waltz. Scorcese and Robertson should have put Marty in the movie. He would have been in his early fifties.
@tarquin4510 жыл бұрын
Thanks for that Harold. I'm beginning to wonder if Jimmy Davis actually wrote any of the songs that have long been attributed to him! Guess we'll never know.
@mrbobevans5 жыл бұрын
Do you like this song better than the Band's "It Makes No Difference?" Rick Danko's (RIP) vocals are amazing on that song. Without a doubt, it is one Robbie's best songs (oh, that is a touchy subject with Levon RIP)
@wilsonhify10 жыл бұрын
Correction who wrote the song! Floyd Tillman(Country MMusic Hall of Fame )wrote this song in 1938.

Hi Tarquin45, Yes Floyd told me years ago who did write You Are My Sunshine..don't quote me but seems like it was tompson.. or something with a son at the end of his name.I would have written it down but I was driving Floyd back from receiving the Lone Star State HOF award.. it was in 2002.. if I can find out I will pass it on to you.. Actually Faron was correct as Jimmy Davis made the song popular but he didn't write it..thanks for your reply..hillbilly

@hillbilly2bill Jimmy Davis is also known as the writer of 'You Are My Sunshine', but apparently that's not true either. Marty also sang 'It Makes No Difference Now' on one of his 'Spotlight' shows and special guest Faron Young actually says 'That's an old Jimmy Davis number' so you see hillbilly2bill he was wrong too.
@larrysdesk7 жыл бұрын
My information tells me that Floyd Tillman wrote this song.
@hillbilly2bill15 жыл бұрын
Love your songs..But I must tell you, Jimmy Davis did NOT write this song. Floyd Tillman did..Floyd also told me who wrote other songs that Gov.Jim said he wrote.. Floyd was like a father to me. I was with him and holding his hand when we lost him early morning 8/22/03..I am sure you would like to research and amend your posting.. Later years Jimmy shared with Floyd as co-writers.. I am sure this was an oversite.thanks for all your songs..
