I'm an old rock n roll guy. The Who, The Byrds, etc etc. I didn't know Marty Stuart from Marty Robbins. I watched the Roger McGuinn, Chris Hillman "Sweetheart of the Rodeo" anniversary clips on here and became curious about the guys playing with them. I came across a gig that Marty and the Superlatives did in Suanee Florida. I was hooked because these guys reeled me in with instrumentals, McGuinn style hooks and great guitar work. Then I started buying cds and listening to Marty's career. Thank you Mr. Cody for an extensive interview.

This was how I found Marty Stuart, too. Sure glad I did. Saw Marty and the Superlatives October 2021 in Bethel Woods NY-so sweet it was. Handsome Harry took a selfie for me of the two of us - nice man. I was supposed to be at the Ryman 6th row aisle (I’m short) for Marty’s Late Night Jam last June 8. June 2 I self-tested positive for Covid, couldn’t go. Ty I bought ticket insurance when I booked my Ryman ticket - sure wish there was a DVD or KZbin video of that concert…I’ve seen clips people have posted. Sure hope to get there. ❤

Marty, your comments about “the monster” inside of you hit home for me as I’m sure it did for many. That monster not only destroys the person he invades, but the family friends and people you love the most and need the most. The monster destroys who you were and if he can he will destroy you, entirely. My monster did incredible damage, but I put that beast in the rear view mirror. Some family never forgives. Some friends never forget, but you are correct sir: there comes a time when you must face down the monster - or he will destroy everything you ever tried to achieve. I’m happy to hear you bagged him up. I know the struggle to so was not easy. My best to you.

If I remember right, I first heard of Marty Stuart sometime in the early 90s. I kinda rescued a cassette tape and some other misc. items from a friend's house that was on fire. The plastic tape had melted a little but still played. I listened to the song "Hillbilly Rock" and fell in love with it. I was playing in a "LOUD" rock & roll band at the time. I convinced the other members to begin playing a little country music. Marty Stuart has been an idol to me ever since. My mother loved Marty and his music for many years. He came to Columbus Ohio to play and my mother was 85 at the time fighting leukemia. I was able to get there early and save a place for her close to the stage, and take her behind the stage to briefly speak with Marty and Cousin Kenny before they went on. Once they began playing, my mom got up and worked her way to the very front of the stage and danced a little as the band played. She absolutely adored Marty and The Fabulous Superlatives. I don't think she ever missed one of Marty's shows. She lost her battle with leukemia a few months later, but told me that was the best time she had ever had in her entire life.

Marty is a class act ! I'm the same age first saw him in Missoula , Mt with Lester at 14 then with Cash in Helena I got to visit with him at the hotel he thought it was crazy I knew who he was but at 14 I knew 6 chords on the mandolin and knew how to follow a couple fiddle tunes but I was so blown away that a kid my age could play like that ! Saw him again with Johnny . My friends opened up for him I wanted to go so bad but couldn't get out of work . He's played a ranch near by and around the state but I've never been able to make it to one of his shows but have been a huge fan since 14 . Hope to make it to one of his shows one day ! My health isn't that great anymore but it's ony bucket list ! Hopefully he'd sign my Tele & I could request Matches .

On one of his shows he covered Linda Ronsdadt’s Heartbreak Kind. Killer version, wish it was actually released on CD.
Marty, thank you for the story about the eagle flying. I was driving and an eagle was flying ahead of me but towards the left side of my car. He did this for like a half mile and then flew off. I never understood why he did that until you told your story that it means everything is going to be OK. I had come to see my aunt before she passed and she left us one and a half years later. The eagle was telling me everything was going to be OK.

My late wife was seven years older than I was. Nobody believed it would last, but it did! I asked her once how she explained that? She said, "Boys mature much younger than girls." I told her that was exactly opposite of what most people think. Kathryn's response? "No. Known a few men, and none of them matured much more than 12 years old." She taught me a lot.

I saw the stage and Marty and went to jump out of the car. Only problem was it was still moving! Scared my Mom to death! Now I say I went to see Marty in concert I risked my life! LOL He was just awesome, no words to describe!

In the mid 1990s, Marty was working with Jerry & Tammy Sullivan, relatives of the Sullivan Family Marty worked for decades earlier. He produced their Bluegrass Gospel Albums, wrote Songs, played Mandolin, and they were nominated for Grammys, won, and Dove Awards. He even wrote the words for the Bill Monroe written Gospel Instrumental "Get up,John". Marty & Jerry and Tammy Sullivan, some of the finest Gospel ever made. It's on youtube.

In some ways but he helped or tried to in lots of ways. But part of the downfall of country music started with that movie with John Travolta and Debra Winger where they were doing some country dancing and wearing those cowboy hats with the feathers hanging down. My husband was playing local country music and working part time DJ at a local radio station. He would come home at nights after the nightclubs would close and he would say the requests would be “play me something I can line dance to”…..he could tell then that the music scene was changing. He played the California scene when it was happening with many of the greats, and I saw him bring many of them through his small nightclub he owned and worked here in Oklahoma City. We just kind of sadly shake our heads at some of the music that is called “Country” these days. There is such a deep hunger for Traditional Country but sad to say it’s too hard to find. ❤

I love Marty Stuart and especially what he represents nowadays. But he's wrong about BB King being "the man who started the Blues". There were many black men who were playing Blues long before BB King. There were so many in fact, no single Bluesman can be considered "the founder of the Blues"..........it was an entire list of black men who started what eventually would be called: Blues music.
