A smooth calm video, reviews on the F828 are few, nice to see your results though. I'm thinking of buying this beauty (2019), as I shoot mainly landscape, architecture, still life. Thanks for your help in my decision to buy.

Thanks - I was surprised at the results, but Sony did put a great lens on the camera. It does have its limits given the sensor size, so long as you're planning on using it outside it'll be okay - just don't pay over the odds (mine was £30) and get a spare battery.

I ordered one back in 2004 and paid $1500 then sold it in 2006 because I lost my job at the time.......Since that I had many more modern and advanced cameras but F828 got in my heart and after all these years I found one just got it today for $100 with extra memories and two battery and it is like bran new even the stickers looks untouched no scratches and all the buttons works, I got it from an old Guy who told me it wasn't used in long time. So I'm soooo Happppy finally got one now in 2022 and never to loose it again, I know even the Smartphones cameras are more capable today but for me it is a special camera worth to be in my collection. Great Video Cheers

She's built like a Sherman tank and also, unlike many other Bridge cameras today, because the lens is solidly built and at its full size , you don't get those lens errors or broken lenses when you forget to take the lens cap off. That Zeiss lens makes this bridge camera also take razor sharp images and if you have it dialed in right you can get some DSLR worthy shots. I've got a ton of them in my Flickr account that can attest to this. The trick I found with this camera was that once you got it dialed in, it took great pictures and still continues to. It's a totally different experience using this camera to any of the other ones I have in my Arsenal. I would say it's therapeutic in ways. I actually get quite a bit of enjoyment out of this machine. oh, and by the way thank you for doing this camera that Justice it deserves. So very little exists on the f828. That's probably why so few people know about its great qualities. I love the music in your video as well as the conamatic qualities

I grew up on the f828 as a photographer. Composing through the viewfinder at waist height with the screen facing up at you was so helpful for candid street photos. It's made my first dslr (Canon 5D a year and a half ago) miserable by comparison as I'm not used to composing through a viewfinder and don't enjoy the experience. I enjoyed photography worlds better when things were simple!! I have a lot more control at my hands now but shooting was so second nature those days. I've toyed with getting another one because I loved the experience so much. My photos weren't the sharpest but I wasn't too smart about shutter speed back then. Some of my favorite photos were taken in '08-'09 abroad w/ this camera. Thanks for making this video.

Sony needs to bring back an updated version of the prosumer tilting body cameras, I started my digital photography journey with an dsc-f717, still have it, very versatile and fun to use…
@loveaodai1005 жыл бұрын
I bought one when it first came out and used it up within a year or two shooting over a hundred thousand images and was overall very satisfied with it. People seem to get hung up on the amount of megapixels instead of the quality of pixels. If I remember correctly the camera had something called a super HAD sensor which gave a nice clear image even at 100% image size but the sensor used up the battery much faster than the newer CMOS sensors. In addition... the camera sometimes had trouble with rich colors of red. But skin tones were absolutely perfect. It also had a dark mode infra red which was very interesting but I never really used it that much. I might just go ahead and buy a working used one if I can get it for a good price.
@MartyGreenwell5 жыл бұрын
Yeah, people do get hung up on mega pixels - if you're making big prints then it's important (but then you're also going to need very good glass too). If you're sharing on social media then you can get away with a lot less. The IR aspect of this range of cameras is interesting; it's something I want to to a video on at some point.
@loveaodai1005 жыл бұрын
@@MartyGreenwell By the way... my first digital camera was the Sony Mavica from 1998 which used floppy discs for the image storage. The sensor was about .6 of one megapixel. The way they advertised it you would think you were getting something like Samsung's 64 megapixel image of today. In fact... the images looked pretty good on the old CRT monitors but regrettably are next to worthless for anything else. Funny thinking about it now... when going out for an afternoon of street photography I would bring a pouch with about 20 floppy disks.

It was the #1 Sony Cybershot into 2003 with RAW Recording. It does have a full Metal Body, but the Handling had it's Quirks...and it was also basically a ISO 64 Camera, because other-wise, higher ISO, the Noise started to Creep into the Pictures. Further, it had much CAs. So the DSC-R1, which came into Fall 2005, was it's Successor, with APS-C Sized 10 MP Sensor.
@MartyGreenwell2 жыл бұрын
I recently picked the R1 up and noise control is better - ISO is the real battle with cameras of this age, but NR has gotten better in post-process software, so the RAWs can be pushed a little harder. Always worth trying to keep that ISO as low as you can tho.

I remember this camera! so much nostalgia watching your video. I had the one before it too... the F717.... this f828 I recall had really bad green color casting... I remember they advertised a lot about their color science.... but while it was an improvement in most areas.... I recall the f717 just had a cleaner color balance overall....
@MartyGreenwell5 жыл бұрын
Thanks. Looking at the out of camera JPGs a green colour cast is not something I can see is an issue with the camera I have. With a sample of one though, it's difficult to say whether mine is an exception to the rule. I have an F717 as well, but the thing I like with the F828 over that, is that it's a manual rather than power zoom (and has a more useful wide end on the zoom).
@kpadmirer3 жыл бұрын
I have had two of these cameras and the only weakness I can see is that the battery eject lever is fragile and breaks easily even without touching it. I had to glue cardboard shims to the base of the battery to keep it in the compartment.
@MartyGreenwell3 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I hate those kind of eject mechanisms and clips. I had a Fujifilm S2 Pro battery compartment clip become unusable (fortunately a few spares and repairs around). Battery availability in general are going to be the issue going forward for these old cams I think.

The F828 can take Sony Memory Stick Pro Duo and Compact Flash, I'd go with Compact Flash given they're cheaper and more widely availble. How did you get very good photos with better colors
@MartyGreenwell3 жыл бұрын
I process the shots in Adobe Lightroom - if you can process from raw files then you've got more information in the file for colour/luminance to play with. Given the age of the camera it still has its limits, but advances in Raw Processing means you can now get more out of them then back when the camera was released.

@MartyGreenwell5 жыл бұрын
Are you're saying it's taking a long time between taking shots on your camera? Likely one of two things. First, check to see if your camera is set to record photos in raw image quality; if this is on, it takes ages between shots. The other is to scan the memory card, if the card has bad sectors on it then it'll take longer for the camera to write to it (and you're also in danger of losing photos from a corrupt memory card). If you're using an old CF card, it's also possible you've got one that's slow to write to without it being bad, but that's a couple of things to check.
