I now look forward to all of your new posts. You have an excitement in your voice, where others don't. Believe the next time I'm at Goodwill rubbish store, I will start myself a model restoration project. Thanks Marty!

I love your meticulous expertise and concise explications, not to mention your smiles and the joy we get from watching you at work. I have enjoyed Australia twice in the flesh, but old age and an insufficient pension cannot prevent me from enjoying it now by proxy. Many thanks for your own contributions.

Superb. Like a Phoenix rising from the flames. About the 2 pedals. This racer was made before the standard control layout of 3 pedals, and a gearshift between the front seats. I think the Austin 7 was the first mass produced car with standard controls. Some of the early cars had levers on the steering wheel for throttle, and ignition advance. Some also had a lever for manually pumping in the engine oil. So many functions have now been automated. Alot of people around today who have never even seen a manual cold start choke.
@markharris49924 жыл бұрын
True. Pump on left side is manual oil pump. Brake was a lever on right side. Most midget race cars if the 40's and 50's retained this layout. No brake pedal as there is no room and besides who needs brakes in a race car lol.
@ZGryphon4 жыл бұрын
Heck, race cars back then had a crew of two, because there was so much manual engine management that the driver just couldn't be bothered with it.

I recalled from a Top Gear episode that it was a Cadillac that had the first 'modern' control layout. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cadillac_Type_53

At 65, I still have all of my “Yesteryear” models. The details, paint....and on some of them the “brass work” is--as you say -- a work of art! And by the way......I’m using the term “fiddly” now.....my wife says she hasn’t heard that since our days listening to The Who’s “Tommy”! Thanks again, so much, for an enjoyable and relaxing video!

It never fails to impress me up much detail the designers put into their metal castings. I think they really must've wanted to set themselves apart from painted tin-plate toy cars by actually having a wealth of three-dimensional detail beyond what was strictly speaking necessary for good play value :)
