It’s time to reduce GST on cars to 15% Government still thinks cars and petrol as luxury, hence charges very high rate of taxation on these. 57-58% of on road car prices is actually taxes! Petrol is taxed at nearly 300-350%

Maruti discussing safety standards feels quite ironic. Remember when Nokia became complacent? I see a similar attitude here regarding vehicle safety. Indian consumers now have access to more information, and fuel efficiency alone no longer drives purchasing decisions. Mark my words: the time will come when your market share will drop below 20%.

He says people with scooter are not buying less than 10L price car. Bhargav ji needs to understand the youth of today. Even a motorcycle that a 25 yr old bought like a pulsar 160 costs 1.4L, first job switch he gets with good salary hike, he is able to put his 2-3L savings downpayment to finance 14L thar/creta etc. Why will he buy less than 10L ruppees car? There are ample examples of young people around buying their first car as an SUV priced more than 10L

Financing and SUV with down payment of 2 lakh is dumb. Take a look at NPA in banks and NBFCs RC Bhargava is smart, he knows the market.

@abhaykumar619 I am not saying it is right but that is what is the reality of car market and they need to adapt to prevent loosing market share which has been happening.

this 25 yrs. kid putting up 2 3 lakhs downpayment to buy a 14lks car which will translate to an Emi of roughly 30k pm will get a wakeup call latter in life. Unless the kid is really well-placed in the beginning of his career, which very few are in the real world.

Sorry. Respected sir is still in old days. None of the two wheeler owners upgrading to four wheelers are keen in buying a sub 10 lakh rupees car. Thanks to the current government distributing freebies (direct/indirect) and easing out loan disbursements, both classes are stretching for rupees 10+ lakhs cars. The target market of these smaller cars has changed drastically. It is now a market consisting of people who already own a bigger car but want a compact hatchback for city commutes. Focus on this new market please!

Car sales in high taxation and Inflationary times moves to two wheelers. With less disposable income left in hand, people are forced to cut-down aspirational purchases.

Car tax is very high, again fuel tax also high, again toll tax.. service also taxed, entire economy running on vehicle related taxes... Tax on tax.. exshowroom price includes GST cess etc... and road tax later.. fuel tax toll tax.. before paying these taxes income tax was already paid. Ex factory price 10lac car if you want to purchase and run for 10years.. you need to earn more than crore

Everyone has taken the middle class on a granted basis. Neither Govt is understanding the problem of middle class and reducing the taxes, whether it is tax GST tax, whether tax on your other in income that you earn via Bank FD or RD and one thing, I don’t understand why The registration and the road tax is dependent on the X showroom price. It should be flat because if someone buys a car of 10 Lakh he also gets the same Road compare to the one who is buying the car of 20 Lakh so why different charges for registration and Road? They are getting the same roads and the process of registration is also same, won’t be buying the new car and giving my money to the Govt when Govt is not giving me anything in return and respective of my tax.

URBAN Consumers are subjected to tax and inflation from ever sphere wheras RURAL Consumers have the benifit of agricultural income, rental income, govt subsidies and other welfare schemes. If u remove these benifits to rural consumers then one could give respite to URBAN Consumers by bringing down GST in various Goods n Srevices. URBAN Consumers spend on housing EMIS or Rental expenditure, but those in rural mostly live in their own homes.
