I beat Ronan Standard Campaign today! Took 5 attempts. I was playing two handed solo Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver. Started out trying to control the threat and side schemes but it just wasn’t worth it. Ronan was just hitting way to hard for a control plan to work. I took a page out of your captain marvel playbook and just went all in on damage every single turn. I feel like that’s the only way to take him down.

Yea. I got lucky with spider woman whom i have always considered a little underpowered against ronan since he is stalwart. I got lead and prot deck. blast ronan with go all out kamehameha wave on my third turn. Got moxie, morale boost, some 1 cost green card and 1 cost spider justice card 6 * 3 18.

Amazing! Captain Marvel is a Beast! I currently have the Core Set and the Rise of the Red Skull Campaign Box. What 2 or 3 hero packs do you think are good after owning these sets?

@varun ganti You've got a great place to start! I'd say go with your favorite heroes first, which for me would be Captain America and he is also a good true solo hero. That was awesome! But, I have a doubt, when you deal the damage with the 1st card with 5 counters, why did you not take in to you posesion the geme of the stone?? You deal more than 3 damage to him!

Oooof that was close but great job! It's crazy how you can be so close to beating Ronan then he can literally murder you in one turn sometimes. Definitely the toughest villain yet and it's not even close in my opinion

@Daniel Keim Yep, too close. I should have cancelled that last "Advance" card. And agreed, if someone said another villain was tougher, I'd have a hard time agreeing. Right now the only consistent win I foresee is a total rush strategy ... but, I'm still waiting to see what the next two hero packs bring.

@Daniel Flare After what he did to Rocket & Groot in my standard campaign, I needed to know if (in my opinion) the best "Rush" attacker could get the job done. I don't think she'll work with the extra campaign cards (consistently) as that additional encounter card will probably be too much for her solo ... but I think she'll be very consistent against the non-campaign standard and expert Ronan. What is the win/loss ratio for this game? You make the game look easy most of the time!

That was my only attempt on Expert. There were two suboptimal plays on my part, so it should not have been that close. Off the top of my head, I'd say this deck would probably be a 90% win vs Ronan expert. My first Standard play against Ronan, I skipped an attack, still think I would have won, but would have needed to take another turn (so can't count that one). 2nd attempt was posted Tuesday. (Basically did that play at lunch, and the expert after dinner).

I made 3 poor decisions that game that I remember. That was one. The other was discarding an Endurance for the Energy Channel when I should have played it after flipping to Alter-Ego, and 3rd, I should have cancelled that last "Advance". And with those, less than optimal plays, still was able to pull out a win ... barely. :) I feel safe in saying for Standard and Expert Ronan, she will be a consistent win ... in campaign play, I don't think it will go that well. Who is your best character, or characters for taking on Ronan?

@@sedlak87 I have 2 tries against him in the standard campaign ... one solo (playing rocket and groot) which I shared with the world, and another with another person still playing with rocket and groot with a very similar result. I expected the result and was laughing at how bad it went, he looked demoralized. SO MANY SURGES!! lol

Yeah looks like DPS is key and getting a good run with the cards as even with optimum play may not help. Even in this run you could have gone down on a single bad card draw. Clearly Hulk has a good chance. Still interesting to see how Star Lord fairs.

My copy of Star-Lord should be arriving next week ... I just don't see me ever wanting to use his ability. Yes, playing a card for 3 less is awesome, but those cards better be AWESOME for an extra encounter card. :)

@@DaletheCasualGamer Yeah with my limited experience avoiding encounter cards where possible is a key consideration however SL has cards that take advantage of how many encounter cards are stacked against you... e.g. Gutsy Move remove 2 threat + 2 threat per face down Encounter card and as for Sliding shot its the same thing but damage so 5 + 2 for every face down encounter card so sounds great to setup for a burst take down in phase 2 ? .. there is a 1 cost UG that increases hand size up to +3 based on the same thing.. Not had time to play it yet but will give SL a go over the weekend.

@@RocketMagnetUK Oh man .... Star Lord is AMAZING, trust me. With just one extra encounter card, and using his element gun and basic attack, he can hit for 12 damage if he has a Sliding Shot in hand. 19 or more if he has a second one .. and even more if he pulls a Daring Escape. :)

Seems to me a quick defeat is the only way to go with Ronan. Any drawn out game will surely end badly for the Champion. This seems to go very well solo - but I am not so sure in a 2 Champion play. (Unless you have another Hero who deals out a lot of damage like Carol)

@Werdna True, she works solo because she can typically take out the villain in 3 to 4 rounds and not have to worry much about schemes. With another player doubling the health, that player will need to dish out as much damage or provide some serious defensive support to keep her going.

@@werdna9006 I'd like to say Hulk. Ronan doesn't give out much stunned conditions or force exhaustion, so maybe he could keep the beat down going. Or someone that could provide defenders with a heavy ally team to defend for Marvel, but then you might need some thwarting assistance if Marvel will do all the damage. So maybe a heavy ally build with Leadership or Justice (protection if the character is a strong thwarter). Captain America, Ant-Man. Just have to watch out for those surprise, or not surprise, overkill attacks. :) Good luck!

Yay!! I never need to play Ronan again! Yay!! Well, at least we will be taking a break. When Star-Lord and Gamora arrive in the US, I don't expect I will be trying them out against anything rhyming with Ronan for a while. They release the 14th, so I should get my copy the 17th or 18th.
