MARVEL CHAMPIONS Solo Play Thru with SPIDER-WOMAN vs the ONCE AND FUTURE KANG

Played against Kang yesterday with Leadership Black Panther and Justice/Aggression Spider-Woman. It was the hardest fight of all villains, by far. Kangs attacks almost killed us before we even managed to get to Phase 2... In your video it looks so easy. You were lucky with your encounter cards though, in our run he threw minions at us like crazy. At one point we each had 3 minions attacking us. Also his overkill weapon almost destroyed us. Kang is by far the hardest villian in our experience... Also the game was ridiculously long, we played about 3 hours!

@Sascha Playing through all 3 versions of Kang does take some time. I don't mind it in a group, but playing solo it goes too long for me. I've also found that when dealing with his second "tier", it's ok for some heroes to fail the scenario and just come out healthier, taking time to heal. And yes, getting overwhelmed with minions early game can be difficult to recover from. Thanks for sharing, and good luck with your next play!! :)

I just filmed a game on the weekend with Justice Spiderman against Kang. After the video realized I had made a huge mistake so it looks like I am going to be doing it again. Really love Kang as a villain.

So around the 27 minute mark where you attacked Kang twice, it should've been 4 attack, you had Spider-Woman's standard attack + combat training + the two aspect buffs. So instead of being down to 7 he should've been a 5.

Hi Dale Great video, I played Kang solo, 2 handed and with my son, personally I like solo for a quick game and playing with my son/with another person has been an incredible experience. I think 2 handed solo is a bit too much personally. Overall, I like Kang and the replay ability was been great. Thanks for the video.

@Mr. A Lee Glad Kang has been well received! And for me, 2 handed solo vs Kang is not something I plan to do again. I do want to play him multi-player, but I like the "quick" solo game experiences. Not an "epic" solo gamer. ;)

at 28:00 there is a message on screen to reverse the order to avoid damage for healing. Not that it matter in this case, but isn't the current play fine since weakened obligation only triggers on hero basic power not alter-ego recovery?

At 3:01, wouldn't Spider-woman attack for 2? You played an aspect card before Spider-woman's attack...so plus 1 attack? Or plus 2?

Dale, what kind of sleeves do you use? I imagine with the shear amount of cards that are in Marvel Champions that the cost can get up there pretty quickly.

@TeaRex091 I am using DragonShield clear matte sleeves, and they are a bit on the pricey side. I had been using Fantasy Flight Sleeves for about a decade but they were discontinued and replaced by GameGenics. I really like the feel of DragonShields, but they are one of the more expensive brands out there. Hope that helps. :)

@SirReasoner Nope, looks like I missed something. New glasses and old brain. :) Thanks! Would not have changed much. Would have used Spider-Woman to get rid of toughness and then that would have been handled with Quakes last attack on the 1st level. :)

Spider-Woman is ridiculous in solo. Pheremones and Contaminant Immunity negate a lot of the Villains major effects (damage and threat). Her Signature package is the most all-encompassing, I wonder if she surpasses Cap in solo efficiency.

@Evan Chauvette She is a unique character to play, and locking down villains allowing her to switch back and forth from hero to alter-ego with no real consequences is huge! There really are many very powerful heroes to play in this game. :)

In your second turn, you used Spider-girl against the Villain, when in her description says to a Minion. Am I missing something?

@Luis Gamer Thanks for watching. Her ability to stun and confuse is to a minion only, but she can still use her basic attack against the villain. Hope that helps.

I read somewhere on reddit that this is not a good expansion for one handed solo, is this true?

@FreeformRock Due to what Kang does, by splitting up the heroes for his second phase, he is best with multiple heroes to get the full effect of what he does, but I have no issue playing one-handed solo with the Kang expansion. Now due to how long the game can take with multiple heroes, I'm not a fan of playing two-handed with Kang. :) Hope that helps, and thanks for watching!

@walter koninski I was totally expecting to lose in the expert team-up with Hawkeye and Black Widow, but have been having a good streak going with my solo plays. My multi-player games, haven't always gone as well ... so it must be the other players. ;) I do try to pick heroes that fit my general play style and put them against villains where the strengths show. Hence why Hulk had a lot of team-ups instead of solo plays. Hope your games are going well! :)

Why do your allys always get a damage when they do something? Maybe I just missed a rule...?

Check the rules for consequential damage. After activating them to attack or thwart, depending on symbols next to that stat, they will take that much damage. Hope that helps, and happy gaming! :)

On page 18 of the rulebook, under Villain Defeat, it says, "Attachments, status cards, counters, and non-damage tokens on a villain carry over to the new stage." So I'm curious why you removed the Confused status card after you defeated his first stage.

What happens to status cards and attachments on Kang when he is defeated? Normally when a villain is defeated, attachments and status cards on that villain are transferred to the next villain in the villain deck. However, there is no next villain deck in Once and Future Kang, so attachments and status cards are not transferred from Kang (I) to Kang (II) or from Kang (II) to Kang (III). -The Once and Future Kang rulebook
