Captain America is a superhero appearing in American comic books published by Marvel Comics. Created by cartoonists Joe Simon and Jack Kirby, the character first appeared in Captain America Comics #1 (cover dated March 1941) from Timely Comics, a predecessor of Marvel Comics. Captain America was designed as a patriotic supersoldier who often fought the Axis powers of World War II and was Timely Comics' most popular character during the wartime period. The popularity of superheroes waned following the war, and the Captain America comic book was discontinued in 1950, with a short-lived revival in 1953. Since Marvel Comics revived the character in 1964, Captain America has remained in publication.

I find Zemo's comment that Steve is the one person that wasn't corrupted by the serum telling. This is a contrast to Tony's quip that everything that is great about Steve comes from "a bottle". Steve really was the conscience behind Captain America.

In the version of Marvel cannon I keep in my head, the "vita-rays" Cap was exposed to are actually Gamma radiation like the kind that made the Hulk. People who survive being exposed to Gamma radiation tend to develop mutations based on their deepest subconscious desires. The only thing Steve Rogers wanted was to join the army and be all he could be. What the Super Soldier Serum does is prevent DNA inside cells from being damaged.

In the Ultimates Rogers didn’t get all his abilities from the serum, the serum was just the final test. Rogers underwent 6 months of steroids, surgeries, and experimental treatments becoming genetically enhanced before Fury or himself were ever injected with a serum. So, Fury got a serum before Rogers but Rogers was the first Super Soldier.

I would be interested in seeing that video you proposed. I remember that ultimate Nick fury gave Bruce Banner and Henry Pym a sample of his blood with the original serum without telling them it was his. In their attempt to reverse engineer it, they accidentally created the hulk and the hulk wound up killing Richard and Mary Parker, Peter's parents who worked on the project. The main reason why Nick watched over Peter because he owed it to them for his role in their deaths.

100% agreed! I really hate these retcons or even future-cons. The Super Soldier Serum is supposed to be rare, and stay that way. I wish they would just leave it like that. The formula was lost with Erskine and Steve is the only one of his kind -- if everyone is a Super Soldier, no one is a Super Soldier. It's like giving everyone in Metropolis Superman's powers, well now he's not that special if EVERYONE can do what he does. Like Cap's shield being unique and never duplicated, at least that has stayed mostly that way, except in the MCU where it's just Vibranium and there's a crap-ton of it in Wakanda so nothing really special. Sadly, I think alot of this comes from the dearth of creativity in the West these days. Because creativity has been lost and the writers are just lazy they keep rehashing old ideas, watering them down in the process, not to mention the disgustimg level of personal politics they keep injecting in to the stories! It's so bad, you would think the time of creativity has passed, but just check out anime and manga! The Japanese are killing it! Fresh ideas, new characters, no PC nonsense! And they crank it out like it's going out of style! Even slice-of-life stories they make interesting with characters you care about! C'mon Marvel, DC, and the rest, you can do this! You spearheaded the superhero genre! You can make it great again too! Let your old characters be special for what they are and come up something new -- innovate, don't just copy your old homework and hand it in like it's something new!

It could have been a cool idea where the SS serum is more uncommon than rare BUT Captain America is the only "true" success with other super soldiers existing but with drawbacks either minor or major that don't affect Steve Rogers like for example that 300 test army you could have them all be successes at first but once they hit 30 for some reason they age at a rapid pace looking like they are 80 or 90 and develop highly advanced Alzheimer's, or a US Agent type character but as time progresses his intellect gets dimmer and dimmer to the point where he just stands in place drooling like a living statue

Let me tell you, contemporary manga is riddled with cliches - especially from mainstream anthologies. Also the Japanese do produce PC works, but it's usually not mainstream so they rarely get translated, though some are very good. Also there are many limiting factors to storytelling; Specialized academics have even quantified the number of possible story beats. Many people just have short memories about the fiction they're consuming. People that consume a lot of fiction often easily predict how scenarios play out. I rarely get surprised by fiction these days; Reality/nonfiction now entertains me more often.

@@Jayce1701 Truck-kun would like to know your location. Just saying anime and manga have a reputation for repeating almost everything. Isekai, beach episodes, wildly OP protagonists, harems, dense harem protagonists, childhood friends losing, tsunderes, highschool settings, etc.

There are tropes that exist in all genres, wildly OP characters, over-the-top battles, etc. but Japanese anime/manga never fail to make it interesting and create new/fresh characters we care about and they do it all with aplomb! American comics don't do that anymore. They want to make a "new" character, they just race/gender swap an OG character and call it a day -- it's lazy. Sure stories can be derivative, many take on the "hero's journey", which is a literary device as old as humanity itself, but it gets old when they continually do the same thing and the stories become stale -- anime/manga, while they can sometimes fall in to that trap, keep it fresh with a light-hearted beach episode or a small side-quest, or heck even some philosophy! To stay fresh in story-telling, like any other discipline, you have to continually innovate and try new things AND NEVER be afraid to go out on top! Sure, there are those anime/manga that go on for years, but they eventually end, with full character arcs, and a conclusion to the story .... but most rise from nothing, tell a beautiful story, and then go out on a high note instead of beating it to death and cheapening what they had -- maybe, just maybe, they can come back for an OVA, or a special mini-series, but that's that. Time to move on to another story and create something new and fresh. American comics (and I say this will all love for American comics) just keep drawing out the characters they have to death, never innovating, wrapping themselves in such a convoluted, nonsensical story that they need to run retcons like mad and "Crisis" and "War" their way out of the mess they made -- that's as lazy as writing a story that "was just a dream". To invest in something, just to have it swept away like it never happened. Nowadays it's even worse with all the social justice activism these talentless hacks can't help themselves but to inject all over the place like an omnidirectional bukkake. The West needs to take several chapters out of the Japanese playbook and re-think their game before they completely destroy what little credibility they may have left. I hope that helped clear up my position. And, again, I say all this with great LOVE for American comics. I've been reading them for DECADES, and have the long boxes to prove it. I got started on American comics, but they've been phoning it in so long with the lazy writers they have that there's nearly nothing left to enjoy, meanwhile anime/manga have been KILLING IT for at least the past 10 to 20 years with no end in sight!

I'm guessing for the ability to damage things he otherwise couldn't. That, and the adamantium would prevent things like getting completely crushed or getting the top half of his head lopped off. I imagine either of those would at least put him out of commission for a while.

You missed one vital detail. Logan, or Wolverine, was both Weapon 0 & Weapon X. In other words, he was Patient 0, they took his blood attempting to replicate his healing abilities/long life. I forget what comic that I read that in but it was long ago. Due to the memory blocks from Weapon X, Logan (James Howlett) doesn’t know or remember any of this information. Steve Rogers was Weapon I, there were other “Weapons” in the program between Rogers & Howlett, then Wade Wilson is Weapon XI.

Rob man, I want the MCU to go back and explain that Nick Fury in the Captin marvel movie was not the original Nick Fury. How sick would it be to find out that Nick was one of the 300 soldiers, had a successful variant of the Super Soldier formula and took over the Howling commando after Cap was lost in the ice. He and the survivors of the 300 became the first members of Sword and Shield. And as he got older (though far slower than anyone else di to his variant) Nick Fury discovered he could build the body doubles to place all over the world to watch and monitor everything, and then used the Skroll and body doubles as his agents. How bad ass would a tv show of Nick's howling comandos be, and an intresting way to how he knows everything and is everywhere.
