As someone with no interest in GI Joe or Transformers, I hope they keep it up! The industry I think will be healthier if DC and especially Marvel are forced to compete with someone else, particularly someone who focuses more on a handful of high quality titles rather than flooding the stands

Oh man, I feel like I should’ve taken notes to hit on some of the points made here. For me, it’s all about the feeling that I’ve already read my favorite Superman, Batman & even X-Men stories. When it comes to the Energon Universe l, even as a fan of the original cartoons & toys, this still could end up being my favorite take on the properties and that is what is exciting. Kirkman knows how to play the long game with sustainable interest as well as tapping into other mediums to grow the brand. Here he has the chance to do that with established 40 year old Hasbro properties where they would love nothing more to see interest boom…sell those toys!

That's an excellent point. Many of us continue to read the stories of Big 2 characters (or don't!) because of our history with them. But there's a lot of promise in the new Energon stuff. Chances are, I haven't yet read my favorite stories with any of those characters, and that's exciting.

Uncle Scrooge made a splash given all of the heavy hitters they got to do variants (including that, love it, hate it, or be scared of it, Frank Miller variant). Uncle Scrooge is also huge worldwide, Carl Barks & Don Rosa’s work is amazing! Life & Times of Scrooge is still a book that not enough US comics fans have read.

As for the james gunn dcu i hope they continue focusing on legacy characters like it seems they are with green lantern. You could do so much with that because superman has a family, batman has one, and flash does too, just so many chracters and possibilities. I think dc legacy chracters is something they have over marvel

Who are the big names that DC need to launch a Justice League series? Doesn't look like Hickman will be going there. Obviously Mora would be a great choice. Maybe Spurrier or Ewing. PKJ would be cool or Thompson. Waid would be a natural choice out of Absolute power, however we need new and younger voices. Donny Cates would be a big get. A huge come back after their accident and personal issues.

Excellent discussion the energon universe has been an awesome ride thus far. I like what williamson done with both duke and cobra commander as well as Kelly's take on Scarlett and dan watters take in destro. Im exciting for the gi joe ongoing oh and DWJ's transformers and kirkmans vod rivals are Excellent as well. This and ghost machine are breaths of fresh air away from.the big two. Although can i make a suggestion to image MAKE A DREADNOUGHTS SERIES AND A STARSCREEN SERIES PLEASE

Yall talking about Mega-Zords and Transformers but if you look threw Hasbros properties, it has some true gems (many from the 80's) that in my opinion are better than Power Rangers and some have as much potential as transformers. Many of them had only a moment in the spotlight and to many would be like new....

Honestly the only monthly comics I keep up with issue after issue currently are the Energon Universe titles and the Conan series from Titan.

Energon is exciting right now to be sure. Helps that the books are miniseries too outside of Transformers.

Batman is being mismanaged and has been from the start and that's why his sales are flailing. He is a owner of a mega corporation. The Bat Corp should be a far more major line and he should have more stories dealing with his business, but many of them get taken care of by these members though he joins them often. Maybe some of those in the corp work for and or at sattilite sites of Wayne corp or work for companies Wayne Corp works with..... So when he fights criminals in gotherm that aren't disturbing his business it doesn't matter because they are so close any crime is hurting business, but as you go farther and farther out more and more of his stories should do with his business. And the Bat family has not been properly utilized at all.

So.. One thing to note about DC. They do have a digital subscription program. Which gets you the digital 30 days after they drop. This could legit be a reason there is lower sales. Cuz marvel has a subscription too. But I think they add books much later down the line. Not to mention marvels physical books come with digital codes. DC does not so they are basically splitting their own sales numbers across two different markets. (digital and physical)

While this is true, nobody disputes that digital readership is a microcosm of overall readership for comics right now. I can tell you this though: Batman’s sales number are EXTREMELY important to DC.

I’m not a Transformers or GI Joe guy, but I’m hyped by how popular these books are. I’m praying TMNT from Jason Aaron is as good. I’ve all but abandoned Marvel/DC for Massive Verse and Ghost Machine. And I hope this makes Marvel/DC reevaluate their output.

I think on some level it’ll have to make them take a look at themselves. Marvel maybe less so because their sales remain very high. DC has some new things on the horizon with Absolute that could be a huge swing for them. Time will tell!

G.I.-JOE IS LITTERALLY GOING 2 BE THE BELL OF THE BALL IF ITS NUMBERS BEAT MARVEL AND D.C. TITLES... but 12 o'clock comes quickly and when that heel falls off... GI-Joe is not competing with Marvel and D.C. long term. The only way Skybound would have had a chance to become a BIG3 would be if all Hasbro IPS were put into an a universe, and they were working together as well as these 3 properties are working right now. Skybounds universe (g.i.-joe/transformers/rival void) is to focused of an IP with a speciefic fan base, and many people feel (g.i.-joe) is an 80's property in so many ways, but they have gotten the talent that makes them undeniable for now.... It is one of the reason I think G.I.-Joe should have a medieval story line (galvinized iron) they go all in on, were maybe Duke had liniage many 100s of years ago that was/wer a foot soldier, and or a knight, and or a lord.... If they could pull that off and can have midieval and modern line going at the same time (maybe future timeline with a name like galactic inquisitors or a better I word) than G.I. Joe could really take off.

Harley Quin - who cares if you can build a character who is nothing but an overused trope. PUNCHLINE SHOULD HAVE BEEN A GEM!!!! Her story would have plenty action but be made in the vein of older comics for chicks... A chick struggling to make it in the entertainment industry, who isn't a simp, who may be taken advantage of in business sense at first but quickly wises up, and comes to the point were, because most men aren't just going to take advantage of her like they can with some weman, she starts taking advantage of many... it's back and forth as some do get over on her, but she uses he ambitions and power (little as it is for a time) to get what she wants, and plays off many individuals in the D.C> universe.

I only have watched reviews on Punchlines stories, but from what I understand she is trying to break into the entertainment industry as an independent media (something like that) reporter, and if they did the same with Cat Woman then they shouldn't have made Punchline.... why would they change a character after so long - it becomes someone else. If that is her premise I think it is dope as heck as she began as that. it makes her modern and if they made her a compeling competent woman, who decides she is't going to get run over and she can throw punches with the rest of those in the public eye, she could tell the type of stories that many female readers would vibe with.
