No yeah, I hear ya. I had the same qualm and I was like "fuck it, it's my figure and I have no means of ever selling him so I might as well make him my own and I did it and it looks good, you can't even tell, except for the posterior part of his left leg where I used a little too much but for me it doesn't matter. I would recommend planning out where you want the bands to be and apply a small amount around the thighs and boots.
