As for my endgame theory. I think thanos recreating the mindstone will be where the timelines part. Because of the infinity gems being singularities. Kinda like he doesn't just create reality where he has all stones. Or use spacestones to bring him the rest.

Anyone else notice how Thanos expresses unrestricted authentic emotion only once in the movie? When Quill beats him into consciousness after talking with Thanos' sleeping self. He is utterly consumed with rage. That is how much killing Gamora hurt him and he cannot process what he did at all. He then forces himself to go through with his plan, because he identifies his self with his plan, just like any crazy totalitarian or a revolutionary dictator would.. but the murder of Gamora has completely undermined his malevolent motivations. At the end the tragedy is he no longer knows why he did it at all. And I would throw a guess that Thanos' interactions with Quill (due to the Gamora connection) subtly shifted the metaphysics underlying the Great Titan's character, first setting up the character transformation at Gamora's death, then actualizing the result when Quill talks with Thanos' sleeping unconscious self on Titan. The rage when he wakes up is hell.

Fancy words, but what is your point? In the end nothing changes, he goes through with his plan, he even ends up in a state of euphoria where he belives the result is a good one. Thanos is neither crazy nor revolutionary , that was Ronan. Thanos is logic incarnate without room for emotions. Gamora is his weakness but she does not turn him. Naturally she will be the Iphigenia of the tragedy in the movie to come, but that does not mean Thanos have any regrets or questions his actions in the end.
