Everything you thought as a weakness in the game I see as a strength. I love RPGs where I can create my hero and interact with my companions. I spent hours in Fallout 4 building and decorating my house. Too many people are forgetting that this is an RPG.

people seems to don't mind the talking sims sections. BUT, the whole thing is weak because the narrative is not well writen, on top of how it's the only way for your companions get a significant upgrades for their cards/skills. There are no loyalty or companion focus missions too. Something quite integral in many party/companion baser RPGs.

To be fair, the customization for the Hunter gets way better as you open more chests. You get a LOT of options as you progress the game. I will say it's unfortunate how bare bones it feels at first.

Metacritic scores only mean anything when it agrees with peoples opinions. When people hate a game and it has a low score then they point it out, but when they hate on a game with a high score (like here), they say the games journalists have been bought.

Yes I was thinking earlier will we be seeing Moon Knight alongside some other characters from the comics. I would 100% say we will get future DLC with Moon Knight being in the mix. I cannot see a game with this much anticipation and such a great review within a matter of hours not bringing in some serious future content and DLC. 🤩

Good video but I think the best direction for this type of game would be to take the Marvel Omega approach with the legendary list of characters and mass amount of story and history. A free to play open world game like DC Universe would be a great direction as well.

I was thinking the same way when I was watching this review. It had an ultimate alliance vibe to it even though it’s not the same game. I can’t wait to get my hands on it during the holiday season. Thank you caboose for the honest review. I was hesitant at first but when I saw the gameplay during this review, the story, and alternate suits I’m interested. Also, that classic wolverine suit caught my attention.

The graphics look awesome but the game play looks slow but if there's a real time replay or watch mode so I can see it in full animation, that would be cool 😎 👌 I also would love playing as Hunter because it's like the Commander from SWTOR...I love my character far than any other Star Wars character, that said my customizations are usually Marvel based or 40k based and some DBS Also this can be played on PC right? It seems like they want an MMO feel for this game 🎮

The game-play may LOOK slow, until you're actually playing. Time flies because you're constantly focusing on tactics and how to react to certain missions and scenarios. Watching someone else play, yeah, it's pretty boring... but playing yourself, not at all.

You can play side missions indefinitely, and there are only a certain few type of objectives based missions, mixing up your team and cards keeps it fresh and fun, imo.

Midnight sons is actually looking like a really good game in my opinion I like the gameplay style the team with I like the RPG elements I can't wait to get it there is some things that will get boring after a while but it looks good I can't wait for deadpool to join the game in 2023

In my opinion I think Midnight Suns does a good job at being an rpg but not an XCOM with a marvel coat of paint. The devs seemed to have nailed the dynamics of superhero combat without bogging it down with percentages and stuff like that (99% hit with a shotgun and I still missed the Sectoid) and bonding with teammates is a great feature too.

Yeah I'm pretty on the fence, the wonder years midnight sun school yard shinanagan's is a major put off for me, but I'm loving the turn based combat, and I am looking for games that are a little bit different and experimental, the cinematics, Art style, story and sound design of an attack connecting are pretty cool, I love that intro were old man ghost rider calls iron man Robo guy, I mean Iron Man is cool n all but Tony stark I've never liked, I can't stand his self absorbed love for himself, Stan Lee was right tho he's supposed to be someone that's completely in love with himself and unlikable, yeah I'm gonna give it a shot and grab it next week, probably trade in some games towards it too n make it a bit cheaper for myself, yeah great review I've reconsidered my original thoughts and pick this one up, oh hang on .. this on PS4? Or just Ps5 n PC for now?

I had 2 game breaking bugs that required waiting for an update to fix and some parts felt a little tedious. But the overall gameplay is really good and it has the best character development since mass effect 2. I would give it an 8.5.

I just love it! Hunter is a great support! So used to use him in battle, it is not easy to make up a hero when there is other heroes that are so cool, I think they made a great job and I hope they can continue making more awesome games like this one 🥰

I just finished the main story and am about to start NG+. Love this game. I'm hoping that despite disappointing initial sales, Firaxis makes a sequel, or at least releases a DLC that continues the story beyond the ending.

Man your whole thing about not enjoying a custom character is so funny, it’s the exact opposite opinion I have lol. This game was made for rpg-rpg fans tbh. Making my own marvel hero is a dream come true. Totally wrong that it feels uninspired, and customizing every single bit of the characters is amazing. All of that is what I live for. It’s mass effect’s citadel dlc but a whole game. 🥰

This game is also an RPG. Those social mechanics are super optional and very fun in my opinion - this is part of all RPGs. The hunter is so key for this RPG mechanics. Totally necessary character, and you dont have to take him on most missions if you don't want to. Otherwise well done for realising the rest f the mechanics are actually good

Saying that this game is the biggest surprise hit of the year so far... when its already December... must mean its REALLY special. Personally, I was always looking forward to this game and everything people dislike about it, I find to be so fun and interesting and I can't wait to get my hands on it. An XCOM-combat-styled, RPG, with Marvel heroes (especially my daughter Magik) just sounds so uniquely amazing to not be good, no matter what immediate critics say,, especially with its similarity to Ultimate Alliance-style games. I already knew it was going to be a game to enjoy, rather than judging immediately, just like Gotham Knights. Great review man, you are always a content creator to rely on for comic book games.

i mean it's the same team who did XCOM so that sold me right away. Does have it's problems but this studio supports it's players so I see massive updates coming in the future similar to XCOM fix some of the Abby stuff etc. Combat is great though loving it so far and just everything I wanted in this game. The mods will be mental same as XCOM so I can see people adding all kinds of cool stuff from game fixes to changes along with new hero's and skins. i mean a modder turned XCOM into a Star Wars game so anything in this engine is possible.

I actually really like the card tactics style of the fights, but the friend simulator kinda takes u out of the story line, "hey i know we just suffered this huge loss but... book club???" Also some of the voice acting is terribly wooden especially both the male and female voice of hunter, there are a few stand outs but when the MC has no emotion in an emotional scene it kills the whole thing. I feel like this was 2 or 3 different games b4 it was completed or was much larger b4 release, and somtimes these different games clash and get distracting, i love resource collecting for upgrades and exploration to expand the map, and one last thing on the friend simulator i kinda feel all the friend buffs could have been tied to using the different heroes during missions instead of hangouts or clubs, all that time sunk into that could have been used to i don't know... let u do more than one mission a day. For me the tactics style fights and animations hard carry this game. 3.5/5

Honestly, I think Hunter was a good addition. There was a theme that was running through the game that I was wondering how they were going to resolve. They ended up resolving it using the Hunter in a way that I thought was very good. Honestly, the game reminds me of a mix of Marvel Ultimate Alliance and Mass Effect. It isn't selling very well now, which is unfortunate. I think that if they could give it a war of the chosen style expansion it could be phenomenal.

Heads up - Midnight Suns is free this weekend on Steam, and there is a free 3 hour rental of the game available on consoles, which is what I did (Xbox). I don't really like Marvel that much but the combat in this game is really really really good and the characters were amusing. Also the visual and sound effects during battle were very very good.

The reviews/opinions concerning the game reminds me a *lot* of Fire Emblem: Three Houses Great robust gameplay with a legion of customization options - the academy systems are an acquired (re: obnoxious if you've never played Persona or a life sim xD ) taste and an already acknowledged future release of yet *more* content with DLC and the Season Pass Even has a similar score on Metacritic Any game that's giving me shades of Three Houses - which I've newgameplussed so many times that I've played EVERY HOUSE multiple times xD - *must* be doing something right

the hunter is supposed to just be you, you're not supposed to get excited when you see him, its like getting excited for the main character of persona. You just don't do it, because they are not a true character, but a representation of you. The only time people get excited when they see that is either very small children or narcissists lol, so its a good thing you're not excited by the hunter. The hunter is there so you can be excited to interact with the heroes personally (if that works or not depends on the person of course) not to get star struck over your marvel oc lol

I believe it's still 'March' for last gen consoles. Originally all versions were pushed to March, but they were able to get launched upped back to December for PC and next-gen consoles. That is where the confusion is. Also, it was Hogwarts Legacy that was pushed to February... boy... your local GameStop staff needs to get a clue!!

Can't wait for my pre order of this to come in the morning. I brought the physical copy of this and Callisto protocol which i'm also hyped to play. (so a few hours later today) so have to wait for the delivery post. I hope it arrives at 7am or really early in my morning. I am actually hyped to play this game and I love the way they have added in relationship building, being able to plan missions, walk around and all. it just looks really great and enjoyable fun. The waits finally over. 🙂

I was hoping for this game to be more of a team game with friends over a strategy game when it was announced. Similar to something like ultimate alliance but with more of a focus towards team combos and singular play, but it still has a great gameplay system and the characters you enjoy are done justice for the most part. But there will always be that thought of what it "could've" been, especially with introduction of characters like ghost rider

Doing stuff for nothing is not worth any time. They must add something that will make us want to upgrade the abbey, like if we add a chair, we'd have more life or something like that.

Fundamentally, the game is amazing and outstanding in its genre. I really dont have many complaints either. If I had to nitpick, the "friendship simulator" aspect is a little cheesy, but the overall voice acting and writing is pretty solid. I think the games animations, sound/music, and controls are all fantastic. Its definitely not going to be for everyone but there is meaty game and satisfying gameplay loop if you invest the time into it. As I get older I am getting less and less into twitch based games and starting to play more games like this. The game is beautiful. It has a LOT of voice acting (which is good). It is a weird mix between XCOM and dragon age origin. ^^ It is also a card game and has a lot of micro DLCs planned, so not my jam. Not a bad game, but I don't want to support such commercial malpractices.

Then you'll be hard pressed to find ANY game in your future. Almost every game is adding micro transactions *OR* as with Midnight Suns, just buy the Legendary version and get everything included for one price.

Yea I'm gonna go with The Collistrol protocol. I dnt like the fighting style in this. Not a fan of turn style combat. The cards is even worse. This isn't pokemon training cards.

Enemy attacks back AFTER you end your turn, or if they have counter, they attack back right away.

Oh absolutely. Each character has a unique deck that offers up different gameplay mechanics. You'll also sometimes have to use different characters as some heroes can be injured during a mission depending on how much damage they take.

Also, in follow-up to what @Caboose already added. You are required to take different heroes on 'their' missions, but you also want to build up friendship levels (which do carry over to NG+) as they unlock special features. Although, they suggest to focus on three characters per playthrough since, unless you want to grind side missions, it's impossible to max friendship out on more than three the first playthrough. Also note, you ONLY gain friendship on combat missions IF you take the Hunter.
