"How do you not die from infection, because you are in Africa" This is why we need more films set in Africa. There is a huge misconception with it's history. Before colonialization, poverty, crime and sickness was either low or non existent within kingdoms. A popular example is the Portuguese account of West African Kingdoms especially the Kingdom of Edo (Benin) The Portuguese spoke about a vast city Kingdom with a capitalist economy and no crime or poverty. Africa was more advanced than people think. In fact Africa had more advanced medicine techniques than Europe at the time. Africans used penicillin, via mouldy wheat products, invented the C-section, had successful cataract surgeries and also invented immunization by creating a vaccine for small pox. They also bathe daily, unlike other culture. (for good reason, you have more desire to shower in a tropical region than a temperate region) I'm pretty sure they could prevent infections easily. But you'd never learn this in schools or history books
@anoginesta57547 жыл бұрын
Yep, (in a lot of ways) similar to the Americas before colonization.

Also it's in their genes. Many Africans (not all) has a gene that makes them resistant to Malaria, and some other diseases there.
@godseye87855 жыл бұрын
I wouldn't say they were more advanced in all areas though. Proof of the former statement is the fact that the entire continent was outsmarted by a bunch of white guys living up north lmao.

I've got to take a moment to say how happy I am that Marvel don't own Xmen. I fear they would have never got around to making a Black Panther movie. At best he would have just been a co star in the Avengers. And we would have been on the 5th Marvel Xmen movie. Fuck that, there's a whole universe of characters that need there own spotlight.

Tbh, a good point. Not having the property rights of some of the largest heroes forced them to expand on B-listers... which gave us the Avengers. Even C-listers, which gave us Guardians too! I wouldnt be surprised if it really helped them to keep from being lazy, and develop really well done, fantastic films where they had to make a general audience care about someone they dont know much about.

Well I'm African so I can say in Africa (in regards to the raised skin patterns matter): We have several tribes that have raised skin patterns and it's not about being a crocodile as women also would have them done as well. These patterns would also have defined intricate patterns for beauty as well. It can also be a symbol of belonging and community and was even an indentifier among different tribes....Africa is a complex continent. ...and I'll pretend I never heard that ignorant hospital thing that was talked about btw.

I love watching your reaction videos Hyper RPG! This is a big moment in cinematic history. As we know, Hollywood doesn't produce very many mainstream movies starring African American leads, let alone a super hero/sci-fi film with an all black cast. Black film makers, actors (Wesley Snipes) and executive producers have been trying to get a "high-quality" Black Panther movie made for years... Thankfully Disney green-lighted this film and speared no expense. The last time Hollywood gave us an African American super hero/comic book hero film was Blade (1- 3) and Spawn. I believe All Marvel Studio's/comic book Fanboys and Fangirls (regardless of ethnicity) should go see this movie, because it's gonna be awesome! But we, the Black Community, need to support this film and show Hollywood executives that making a Black Panther movie was the right narrative/financial decisions. Please go and watch this movie on opening night/weekend... Watch it a second time on cheap night (Tuesday's in Toronto, ON) and purchase it on DVD/Blu-ray as well. Let's make Black Panther a MEGA hit!!!

Anyway the scars on Michael B Jordan's body is quite common in Africa, we do it in West Africa, bt the scar is on your back not on the chest, like in Southern Africa. We dont die from infection though, I have it all over my back and I have never heard someone died from infection from it.

In relation to Augustin's comment about scarification and infection in Africa... yeah he could have chosen his words far better than that. I know Augustin is an upstanding guy that means no harm, BUT the need for this film and more films that shed light on modern African culture is expressed by Augustin's innocent ignorance about the continent of Africa in general, and the fictional make up of the continent expressed within Black Panther. Otherwise, as usual I enjoyed hearing your thoughts on the trailer, though I'm not a huge fan of so called "trailer reaction videos". Cheers.

As an African - born and raised , I'm taken aback by Agustin's Rios' comment in relation to the tattoos on Michael B Jordan's character and his somewhat closed minded remark on why Africans aren't dying of infections when these tattoos are done. It's distorted western "we are enlightened" takes on Africa like those Mr Ryan Cooglar hopes to reshape with his take on the Black Panther. Africans have been doing this for eons and having to stave off "infection" with natural herbs okay....I hope you dint mean that but mate, please re-educate yourself on African ways...having been raised in Africa and now lving in the west for the last 20 something odd years , I have a better perspective at looking at things...I'd never let a comment like that cross my mind as par south American countries mate.

@TheRealPurpleHand7 жыл бұрын
Olagoke Awoyele Augustin wasn't trying to be disrespectful, but coming from a place where there are medical treatment facilities on many street corners and even tattoo artists wear rubber gloves for protection, it's a very different thought process. We see the UNICEF commercials speaking about lack of clean water or basic foods and one figures that sterilized medical treatment isn't readily handy. You educated by informing so those who read your comment are less ignorant than once were.

The Blanket although sold and partly produced in South Africa is actually a Lesotho traditional art. Lesotho is a small country whose borders are completely surrounded by South Africa. First of all, great reaction. Secondly, I wish people who aren't really knowledgable about Africa wouldn't try to discuss that aspect because then you get it wrong, they always do, and people get offended and then some American dude tells me that I'm lucky that they're even talking about my continent and I should be content with whatever is said. Look, I don't blame you for the 'infection' comment. I'm sure UNICEF and CNN have done a great job with presenting that whole image to the world. But, please let's not be ignorant, of course there are hospitals dude. Please don't reply to me and say I'm being easily offended etc if you want to talk about something on a public platform, do your research. Ignorance is never an excuse. When J.K Rowling presented her other schools in different countries and then the school in 'Africa' basic geography will tell you Africa is a continent not a country. But according to some fans 'We' were lucky 'we' were included so we should just sit down and shut up. And to end my rant, the mispronunciation of Lagos throughout the whole Captain America Civil War movie just made me want to scream. A simple google word search could have solved that problem. Research is key people. P.s the tribal marks were also usually a way to identify yourself so you would less likely be carried off as a slave.
