One of my favorite action figure lines. I always had a soft spot for unfortunate looking figures. I loved how they were designed to be like Kenner's Super Powers figures but without the artistic talent.

I find this era of toys fascinating. Marvel's current dominance of the action figure market comes from this era when they allied with Toy Biz, who would eventually go on to create Marvel Legends which of course is still going strong today. The legacy these - objectively kind of crappy - little figures have is amazing. The weirdest part is that it was DC who first allowed Toy Biz to take a shot at their characters, but their Batman Movie line had only 3 figures in it and their comic-based line was a blatant knock-off of Super Powers but with much lower grade materials and engineering. DC snatching the licence and handing it back to Kenner was objectively the right decision for them at the time - Kenner's movie figures and their animated series stuff was great - but if they'd just given Toy Biz more time, we could have had DC Legends selling by the truckload today while Marvel was the one flopping around playing catch-up. You can't blame DC for not being able to predict the future but they must have kicked themselves for that since.

I had all of them, and hated the way they looked, but there weren’t any Secret Wars figures available anymore. So. I had no other choice. I actually thought in my kid brain the Thor figure was one of the best ones out of all that line. Still do. There should’ve been a cape tho. Also I cut, and shaved the hammer, and fixed it. It still threw the hammer too.

I may actually have this Figure. I started Collecting April 2nd, 1994 and I was buying reissued Toy Biz Super Powers, as there was still a lot of them at Toys R Us despite being discontinued for a few years, and the early Marvel. I grew up in the 1960s and didn't have any kind of Super Heroes back then. By the time Megos came out I was 14 and long out of Toys. It's 30 years later and I still Collect. I think I'll probably throw this old Thor in a toy bin and try to get 50 cents out of him. I have much better Thor's now.

I have a hard time judging toys that came after my time (I was a Mego big and pocket heroes kid). Secret Wars line never looked as good as Super Powers line to me, but to my 70s inner kid its still an impressive line. The more modern hyper articulated and hyper detailed (and darker colors) just don't look good to me. However, the amount of characters that DC and Marvel lines come out with would've blown my kid's selfs mind.

Thanks for creating a positive atmosphere in your channel. There's a lot of toxicity in the action figure community in general and among Marvel collectors specifically. I love to see toy collectors express their passion for toys and talk about their personal connections to them. It's rare! As for this fella, despite having a small collection of the 1990 Toy Biz Marvel superheroes back in the era, I completely missed Thor. I would say Toy Biz's whole early era up until the second or third wave of X-Men figures is full of spotty, shoddy work like this - you can see how they're trying to emulate the design of Super Powers but without the same level of talent and experience that Kenner brought. Which makes sense! Toy Biz was only a couple of years old at this point. I honestly find something very charming about their early efforts - nostalgia plays into it, but I also see a lot of heart buried in the janky features and weird sculpts. Thor is emblematic of all that. Not quite to Bob the Goon levels of jank, but close. I like it! I would buy this figure if only to display among other early Toy Biz figures.
