NG480 Exactly, everyone keeps telling these things that Sony bought Spider-Man in 1985, but they weren’t yet into movies at that time. During the early 80s, Coca-Cola owned Columbia Pictures. Sony was still seen as an electronics manufacturer at that time, but they wanted to branch out to music and created a record label. Then, in 1989, they decided to invest in movies and television by acquiring Columbia from Coca-Cola. And finally, in 2000, they acquired the film rights to Spider-Man. Marvel wanted to offer the film rights to the entire Marvel universe, but Sony only chose Spidey because they saw him as the most profitable Marvel character.
