Lançado apenas 1 mês após o lançamento do Arcade no Japão, MVC2 chegou ao Dreamcast no Japão com um sistema de desbloquear personagens que era dividido em 3 tipos de pontuações: N-Points, no qual você levava um VMU até o Arcade e salvava esses pontos para comprar os personagens, cores de roupas e fases em casa; D-Points, que eram adquiridos no próprio Dreamcast; e V-Points, obtidos no Modo Online.
No ocidente, esse sistema foi simplificado para apenas um tipo de ponto devido à falta de Modo Online e o Arcade não ter sido lançado por aqui. Inicialmente, o jogo vem com apenas 24 personagens liberados para jogar no Dreamcast e os outros 32 devem ser desbloqueados com esses pontos. Toda vez que um novo personagem é desbloqueado, o seu sprite é adicionado à abertura do jogo. Quando todos são desbloqueados, a tela de título ganha um novo tom de cor.
A falta de um Modo Online e a trilha sonora pouco inspirada foram os principais pontos criticados nessa versão também, que infelizmente não trouxe grandes novidades ao Dreamcast; ele apenas é um jogo sólido que roda muito bem no sistema, devido ao uso de 4 botões na jogabilidade.

The audio is much clearer on Dreamcast than the PlayStation 2. The textures are also far less blury

Cara, essa máquina tinha aqui sim, pelo menos aqui em SP e a primeira vez que eu vi essa máquina foi numa casa de Flipper que existiu aqui em SP na Rua Barão de Itapetinga na região central da cidade. Era uma máquina grande com um telão, e jogava-se sentado de frente para esse telão. Fiquei ali parado olhando os caras jogarem e pirei naquilo. Pouco depois depois fiquei sabendo que seria lançado pra Dreamcast e aí foi inevitável eu comprar o console e o jogo. E comprei também um GameShark que desbloqueava todos os personagens e que acabou servindo pra eu usar em outros jogos depois. Bons tempos !

This is still the best version of MVC I've played in my opinion. PS3 and Xbox versions of these games just don't quite feel as awesome. One thing however, it's much better with the arcade stick than the DC controller. Unfortunately, buying the two things separately (and that's if you don't want a second arcade stick) would probably set you back upwards of £130-150 at least nowadays.

Dreamcast aside from the actual NAOMI arcade board is literally the best version. I've played every single version of this game. The PS2 is by far the worst version due to its stuttering, poorly jagged water textures specifically on the ice level, and super poor audio quality. The PS2 version takes a major L when it comes to the boss fight as well with slowed down crumbling effects along with missing audio effects. XBOX version is somewhat decent with slightly better graphics, but just like the PS2 version, it also suffers from bad audio quality, even Strider's voice is more high pitched on the XBOX. Another L that XBOX takes is its bad sprite animation (PS2 wins in this department surprisingly). The 360 version has minor stutter and performance issues and the default match ups are always the same so you have to quit and restart arcade mode just to fight a different roster and most characters never appear as your opponent. Another flaw with the 360 version is the Sky ship level, the weather never clears up on this version so no clear blue sky is ever present. The PS3 version has the same exact issues, minus the stuttering and performance issues but on the positive side, it has much more sharper and clearer graphics than the 360. Now one more thing I forgot to mention is the Bell Tower level. This is why Dreamcast remains undefeated. If you ever noticed on that level when the blimp fly's over, the Dreamcast version displays its huge shadow on the ground as its flying over. Every other console version DOES NOT display a shadow at all. So basically this game could not be ported to other consoles effectively without its compromises. Bonus Fact: Now obviously the NAOMI Board does slightly differ from its Dreamcast counterpart. For instance, certain characters on the select screen are placed in completely different areas. The audio on the select screen is slightly different as well. The audio looping on fight levels is also different. And at the ending credits, the NAOMI Board uses completely different artwork compared to the console versions.

Here's some additional information I was able to come up with. On the Dreamcast and Naomi version, the Bells on the Clock Tower level have certain reflections that display perfectly, the same is also with Abyss's Red Orb on the final level. All other console versions, including the 360 and PS3 remaster DO NOT display reflections at all. I will give the 360 and PS3 version credit for providing the definitive audio quality that was present in the Dreamcast and Naomi version, but unfortunately even the remastered versions couldn't get it right. If you ever noticed, when you face off with Abyss in his first phase, when he does his power rush, the audio cuts out. On the 3rd and final phase of Abyss, the red flames that come from underneath do not provide the overwhelming sound that the Dreamcast and Naomi board does. (PS2 and XBOX are even worse when it comes to this). On the PS2 and Xbox version, if you have a certain character and your opponent happens to be the same, their audio animations cancel out. I am extremely OCD when it comes to this game. I'll probably find out more flaws when I get the Arcade1up versions...

Another quality faq to add: both (PS2 and XBOX) have texture alpha isues, the same problems you can see present on games like GTA SA on PS2, because in a attempt to port this game very quickly Capcom use Renderware, a popular game engine for the 6th gen consoles, instead of the Sony Dev Kit. The bad audio quality is because all the sound effects being compressed. Plus, in the japanese version on PS2 they use the CvS2 lobby instead of the MvC2 present on Dreamcast (but the textures and polygons of this menus are still present in the CD) 😅 And the VERSUS letters on PS2 and XBOX are the worst

I paid £85 for this about a year ago. It was a painful hit on the bank balance, but I'm not sure if I can say it wasn't worth it. Fucking amazing game with loads of replay value. I draw the line at £100 for an individual retro title though.
