I was a young child during the late 50s-early 60s. I certainly remember the 1960-61 period. Not sure how much more innocent it was; things were just kept behind closed doors more. And yeah, rampant racism, antisemitism, and all-around social pressures we don't have today. Women dying from back-alley abortions; gay people facing much worse discrimination than today. As a girl, there were things I just couldn't aspire to. Couldn't even wear pants to school. Even in the coldest weather, we'd have to wear them under our skirts, and then remove them inside the building. Seriously. And that was a public school. And despite Covid, a lot more deaths back then from things people survive today. Lack of internet was good in some ways, but there are resources for learning available now that people couldn't dream of back then. I wouldn't be quick to wish us back there. I do miss social occasions without phones, though, I must admit.

This was from Season 2, the arthritis telethon episode in which Midge meets Shy Baldwin. The dancers are the opening act. I think it’s the season finale. They must have done this outdoors version as a publicity piece, or else it was cut from the episode, because the dancers only appear inside the studio.

@Historian212
@Historian212 Жыл бұрын
No magic. Training. Practice. Repetition. Years of dedication and work. Dancers keep count in their heads, and the music cues them, while muscle memory kicks in. Like everything else: the more you do it, the better you get. If you have any talent for it. And anyway, there weren’t that many different steps in this sequence.
