Thank you for NOT saying that you have to keep SHIFT pressed to sewn the hoodie in the back and front garment. I spend 1:20h trying to figure out why it was not working for me since I was doing the exact same thing as you.

They are using the 1:N sewing feature. it is available with all the sewing tools. to use it you hold SHIFT Key to sew multiple line segments after selecting a first segment. kzbin.info/www/bejne/mIu1aZ1tZdJ0ZrM here is the sewing video that touches on it
