It wasn't the Valar that returned Gandalf as Gandalf the white. They don't have that kind of power. It was Eru Iluvatar. Only he has the power to alter the shape and balance of the song. The one outside of time. The Creator God of all things. The One who possesses the Flame Imperishable.

I have to say I agree with this video. It is very tough to imagine a Balrog winning a battle with a dragon. They might be higher in the pecking order, but dragons were just so much more destructive. This is evidenced in the Silmarillion.

Not all dragons breathe fire. Some in Tolkien's lore are hinted at using frost or lightning and ofcourse they have alot of other powers.

Perhaps the reason Sauron can't/won't summon the remaining Balrogs is because, as a Maiar himself, Sauron cannot wield the same level of authority as Morgoth (whoever created them aside). He cannot bend their will because they are similarily prideful spirits, as they're aligned with Morgoth, and they are on a relatively equal playing field in terms of strength. Also, the Maiar that became Balrogs probably accepted a certain level of permanence in their forms, while Sauron only ever changed his appearance outwardly.

perhaps the reason sauron did not summon the ballrogs or even dragons is because it would not obey someone who is obviously not above them as he was only a maiar just like them unlike morgoth who is an actual ainur.

As a sign of how much more powerful Gandalf became after returning, from what I understand the scene where he casts the beam of light while riding across the plains that halted the Nazgul while they were on their dragon mount....things....was supposed to be a show of power. Apparently, Saruman wasn't even capable of casting a beam that could halt a single Nazgul, yet, Gandalf halted 3 or more with minimal effort.
@RobbyHouseIV
@RobbyHouseIV 2 жыл бұрын
I suppose so. Had Saruman realized the full application of gun powder he apparently had just discovered his Ork/Iruki/Runic mercenary armies would have been unstoppable. "Take your fucking Ring and shove it up your ass Sauron, now say hello to my lil friend!" "What's that Aragorn? You reforged Narsil? I'm so happy or you. Now over the next 2 hours you're going to become intimately familiar with something called an artillery barrage. Stick around, it'll be a blast!"

For beings that are described as being both flame and shadow, I was impressed with how they depicted it on the big screen. I had a hard time imagining it as flames provide shadow-cancelling light. As for the wings, they are technically demons, so they manifest them when needed. Wings need an area to allow them to flap right to let them fly, so falling down a cavern does not give wings the opportunity to be useful. As for a death battle of balrog vs. dragon, I give the edge to dragons. Balrogs seem to be glass cannons, they are exceptionally great at inflicting damage, but can be hurt and hurt bad by anyone and anything that can endure their onslaughts. Also, they are not quite mental giants... not even cunning.

Well once it was falling through that narrow chasm, it can't flap its wings enough to gain flight. Hell its body alone can barely fit through some of these areas. You can see it spreading its wings as they enter that big area, but it was too late by then. Also, not all flyers are good flyers.

No one else has written a fantasy series as good as LoTR, and it’s very likely no one ever will. That said, The Song of Ice and Fire (Game of Thrones) is very good, but unfinished, and with each year that passes, it’s more likely it’ll remain unfinished. The series was finished by the show runners, who are hacks, and the last two seasons are terrible. Such a shame…
