Fun fact, the Japanese version is far more telling. It mentions that Marx only came to Kirby during Star Allies because he sensed there was chaos, and said, “get me in on this!” It also mentions that he isn’t just thinking of ruling over Popstar anymore, but the entire GALAXY!! I’m not joking lol. Just type into Google, “Marx Star Allies Japanese translation”, and a tweet should pop up for you to see it for yourself. With all of that said, I really DO hope he has had a LITTLE change of heart (,: He is my favorite character by galaxies (pun entirely intended), and while I like his diabolical nature, I really would like to see improvement in him (: Also what is it with the Kirby series changing so much stuff when localized to the west? I want the original, unedited CANON stuff haha!

If the Magalor theory is to be believed, I think it's interesting to see Magalor as a different take on Marx's plan. Since Kirby's already been through the "got tricked" act, Magalor acts closer to Kirby. Being a constant supporting presence to make sure Kirby is none the wiser of his malicious intentions. I find it very interesting that while Marx and Magalor's general plans on the surface are basically the same, they go about it in very different ways.

8 years old, still barely a gamer, I sit in front of a slightly staticy tube tv with my SNES with it's slightly gnawed on cords. I am finally about to beat Milky Way Dreams for the first time on a borrowed cart of Kirby Super Star. And I get... To see Marx for the first time. I cried. I turned off the System, put on Cartoon Network and tried to sleep. I can't. The laugh doesn't escape my brain. I end up watching ancient Hannah Barbara and GI Joe re-runs until the morning light. Saturday morning cartoons start playing. My dad comes in, sees how messed up I was, and asks me to come into the living room with him. He pours me a glass of OJ and warms me up a frozen breakfast sandwich, makes sure I feel comfy and safe in my blanket, and for the first time, he lets me sit down and watch him play his new PS1 and the game he had gotten. I smiled, ready to bond with my paternal figure. The game was Resident Evil 1, and I ran out of the room crying like a baby. Marx wasn't scary anymore.

Marx is basically an icon of fear. No other way to put it. He has evolved to be quite the creepy sadistic psychopath to the point where even his own creator, Masahiro Sakurai, was afraid of him. I wish I was joking but in one of his videos, he literally said that Marx's initial SSBU design was scrapped because Sakurai himself deemed it too unsettling. You didn't even mention that his theme has a time signature of "i'm bored, lets change it". The theme goes through so many that transcripts of it don't agree. And it's a bit of a mess flow wise too. "Lets repeat 80 % of the track twice, but skip the last 10 % of it in the second repetition" isn't normal.

I think if I were to create a Kirby animated series, I introduce would Marx early on as Kirby's friend and have him tag along on adventures, often causing trouble with his mischief but generally helping out where he can. Why? Because everyone who plays Kirby or Smash Bros knows by now who Marx is and what he's all about; so to twist his character just one more time by having him actually seem to befriend the unknowing heroes just makes him more creepy, because we all *know* what's going on under that jester's hat, and the viewers would be constantly uneasy just waiting for him to show his true self. Also, it would help with the drama to establish his friendship with Kirby in preparation for his inevitable Season 3 betrayal. Hell, maybe after the fight, the good and incorruptible Kirby could still hold out a hand in friendship only for Marx to slap him away and fly off into the unknown.

I like that approach but I have a different idea, Kirby is good and never evil and that is always on display so I think to be marx so have his evil front and center, make him have FUN with evil. Being the gap between insanity and comedy Always playing around with his foe laughing at every attempt to stop him, every time you think your getting close to beating him he's finds so new way to make a monkey out of the poor hero chasing him. The moment he steps on screen you know that the hero's are now actors in his twisted circus act, when he meets other villains he critique's them, treating villainy like an art pointing out the bad guy troupe in them and mocking them for it, no one is safe from his taunting but feeding him and entraining him is an easy to him to team up with you but the second you bore him he's gonna go back to his tricking and mocking way's. I would keep the creepy attack from smash ultimate, but have show it a little in his movent and expression giving off his creepyness with black leaking eyes when angry, multiple pupils when examining something and so on. When he becomes marx soul he has more outburst and tantrums his speech become more warped with random changes In pitch and tones. Making very clear that Marx's is being pushed to his limit and not all there anymore. This marx is not only a mirror of Kirby, but making fun the classic villain act while reminding everyone of why it's great, in short he shows everyone that *being bad is so much fun*

Always a good day to talk about Marx. He's a great example of a simple yet effective villain. He doesn't have a complex motive or some underlying reason he's doing all this. He just wants to wreak havoc because he can. It's not much but it works for Marx because of his inherit deceptive nature. You take one look at Marx and think not much of him. Go beyond the surface though, and you'll realise he's much more than a jester on a ball.

I always thought Marx was so adorable, but there is something vaguely unnerving about him too. It's the fact that he's a final boss, a bad guy with little hearts on his wings, menacing little laugh and sinister music that I found interesting when I was a kid. Essentially his design blurs the line between the cutesy round critters of Kirby's universe and the eldritch abominations that the final bosses in the series usually are. And Marx's design and vibes are definitely unique in that way.

If there's one thing that never gets old, it's knocking the daylights out of Marx for even daring to have the idea of using Kirby for his own selfish goals and launching that brat into Nova with an amazing explosion and music that's just as triumphant as we feel in that moment. Marx is a living contradiction. His design is cute and innocent but everything he does is sinister and unsettling. He uses that to his advantage, luring you in until he's ready to strike. And once he gets what he wants leaving you baffled and confused, he constantly laughs in your face. Gosh I hate this guy, and that's why he's awesome.

Here's the most disturbing part, in my opnion. The main theme of Kirby is the power of friendship. In Dedede, in Metaknight, in literal eldritch beings, it has been shown how a little compassion can go a long way, and how a little love can redeem a person. Not Marx, though. Mark will not be redeemed. Marx has the biggest friend in the galaxy on his own home planet, and proceeds to stick it to them, time and time again. Marx doesn't want Kirby's friendship. Marx does not want friends. Marx goes out of his way to avoid becoming a good person. Marx is the only person in the entire franchise who does this. That's the most disturbing part, in my opinion.

Comparing Krusty the Clown to Kefka is such a funny comparison. Dude’s only “darkness” most of the time is just the stress from his father, his exponentially failing relevance, and being a constantly on tv “celebrity”. They recently did an episode where Krusty starts a clown school in an attempt to get a new generation of kids into respecting and loving clowns again, and it actually WORKS, both as a school for clowns and a standard educational facility, to the point where even *Bart* can be bothered to pay attention and learn and grow from it. Great video! It reminded me of a book that I love: "Fools Are Everywhere", by Beatrice K. Otto. Simply put, it's a book about clowns/jesters and what makes them so memorable, as well as an invitation for us to appreciate the power of laughter. Thanks to that engaging book, I found out that many cultures all around the world have independently developed professions that one could call "jesters", "clowns" or "court fools". Often, this people would be given the power to do things that other people would probably be killed for doing, like mocking nobles (even kings) to their faces and trash-talking the dominant social institutions, including religion, in public. Jesters laugh at the absurdities of social life in order to help others see (and hopefully face) them. Fans of the Persona series might like this book for some reason ;)

I do think you raise an excellent point. Most villains that betray Kirby are doing so because some sort of artifact is influencing them, or a tragic backstory has pushed them too far. Marx _literally_ just uses Kirby because it makes his goal that much easier, that goal to cause chaos and have ultimate power. It's a simple motivation, but people have often said Kefka is their favorite Final Fantasy villain for just about the same reasons; that he's just evil because evil makes him feel good, and no amount of appealing to his inner soul or breaking any sort of control will stop him. You can't fix something inherently broken. And yeah, the fact that he's manipulating and lying to Kirby and it's not due to some sort of outside force arguably makes him one of the cruelest villains in the series. I would definitely argue that Marx is one of the best, if not THE best Kirby villain, because I think he pulls off the concept of "Evil Kirby" the best. Because Kirby is so trusting and naive, a real inverted Evil Kirby would be manipulative and deceitful, because it preys on one of Kirby's weaknesses. And I love that of all the bosses they could have made playable for Star Allies, they pick Marx; surely because Super Star is so popular and the golden child of the Kirby community _and_ its creator, but also because of all the Kirby villains, I can most easily see Kirby trusting Marx again. Kirby _wants_ to trust people, and Marx _was_ his friend at some point. It's hard to accept that someone like Nightmare or Dark Matter will change, but Marx is basically just a guy Kirby knows. Surely Kirby can show him the right way to do things and they can go back t--oh, never mind, Marx betrayed them again. Ahhh, damn it. Okay, well surely NEXT time he'll learn his lesson, and...

Marx is almost as good of a rival to Kirby as Dedede if you think about it (almost, no one beats the king). He shows the same philosophy as Kirby, simple outside, complex inside. But where Kirby is the friendly take on this, Marx is the much more sinister side to it. They basically mirror each other. Kirby is very action heavy and ready to help anybody while Marx sits in the background waiting till everythings in place for him to strike with his power. I honestly think Marx would've made a great recurring villain and constant mirror to Kirby. Always finding different methods of causing chaos only for Kirby to stop it which leads to them having a good old slug match again.

I think something that was brought up but not quite to just how much it matters was on most villains motives: Dedede is a rival to specifically Kirby, but his original plan is mostly incidental to Kirby (steal all the food), and further plots with him as a villain either have him in a misunderstanding with Kirby, or possessed by a separate evil, or otherwise is just wanting to get back at him for that first time. Most other villains plans are completely incidental, and just happen to take place in the general vicinity of Kirby, in which mildly inconveniencing the pink puffball dominoes into their entire plans for domination getting completely ruined by someone way more powerful than should be underestimated. However, Marx specifically targets Kirby on purpose, and purely with malicious intent. No other villain has both like he does. Marx knows entirely what Kirby can do, how he likes to do it, fabricates a real problem for Kirby to fix specifically to allow him to get Nova in the first place. The only reason it didn't work was that Kirby was able to use the powers he gained from Milky Way Wishes to stop Nova and then Marx himself.

OK this has almost nothing to do with the video but i just thought of an interesting boss/character idea for a Kirby game: while Kirby is potential personified, what if there was a character that has the same potential but has mastered it? this could be used in so many interesting ways like Kirby getting a proper mentor figure (since meta knight doesn't seem to care much about making Kirby into a sparring partner) and have them help Kirby develop his copy abilities. and it could work for a evil character showing what would happen if Kirby were to fall down a dark path, a character that uses that limitless potential for pure heartless evil! just an idea i thought was interesting and needed to get out there :3

Suplex-Only is a VERY fun Arena challenge. Meta Knight's a bit rough in Super Star classic, gives out a lot less free stars so a ton of the fight is reads with the dropkick, but nothing feels better than beating Kracko in two throws.

Only good thing about Suplex is that if you can get it to hit, it does ridiculous damage. Clean 3HKOs everything iirc. Easiest boss to use it against is Dynablade.

I think you missed one last representation of corruption in Marx... his name. Karl Marx was a political thinker who believed that the best society is one in which all resources- from houses to wealth -were shared between their people. This ideology was picked up by Russians in the 1910's/20's, and was branded as Communism. The party was led my Comrade Lenin, a man who, whether you agree with his beliefs or not, did try to help his people through the cost inflation. This all changes when Lenin's replacement (Trotsky) was assassinated by dictator Joseph Stalin, a man who rivaled Hitler in every way possible. Stalin, under the hood of propaganda, changed it to become more extreme, with famines, purges and abusive prisons slimming any "rebels". Today, perhaps because of him, Communism continues to abuse the people and stray away from its original intentions. In short, Marx is named after the man who invented a political ideology that's been corrupted by all who've led it; that, to me, is his most genius representation of corruption.

Star Allies will never not be funny for me conceptually. So, the vague implication is that the cutscene at 10:23 is canon but the Soul fight is not, he just fled after reviving himself and eventually reverted. He then came back when he had bad vibes from Hyness doing his rituals and asked if he can join. The cult said no and then he joins up Kirby because he is kinda screwed if Hyness succeeds. And then he just proceeds to freeload on Kirby's resources until the threat is over, after which he does a little trolling in the credits before leaving. Even Dark Meta Knight, who is literally only there for a potential evil masterplan, at least has the decency to shut up and then say "mission failed, we'll get em next time" when he ended up wasting his time. Not Marx tho, Marx just sucks.

Huh I never thought of it until watching this video but the reason why pop star is able to be such a carefree place at all is because Kirby always always wipes out the encroaching dark. If it weren't for Kirbo any number of awful fates would have claimed the galaxy. Not only is he a ray of sunshine but he is also the defender of happiness and a bright future for all creatures in the galaxy.

This was one of the best videos that I have seen on your channel, and I like it. Though I have come with a suggestion, could you check the entire Lego series and rather tell us what it designs for? Since in my opinion, the original set before the more modern games like Batman 3 (excluding Dimensions, that was the highlight of the whole) designs for the same thing as Top Gear, designing for charm. Since in the beginning, it made every media that it took and made them the best they could be. Star Wars, while was kind of a primitive game, still was popular enough to be something that nearly could recognize, from its humor parodying quite literally everything, to it's simple gameplay letting you understand what you should do and not losing your interest for a second. This formula is not only followed in the later games, but also improved upon, especially in the case of Batman and Harry Potter. Later on though, while they didn't stray too far from the previously set precedents, they certainly didn't push them as far they probably should've. Both the later Lego Movie 2 and Lego World (I dunno if Lego world was made by the same developers though for the sake of an arguement let's pretend they did) rather focused on two aspects, and while they were an interesting experiment, they were both certainly clunky, confusing and just... there were already previously set ways of making a level that were established in Harry Potter Years 1-4. It is all worth a look into seeing what made each of the games click with their audience.
