may i ask what you think the point of literary critisism is? why should one engage with it?

Literary criticism is by its very nature an evaluation or a judgment. As readers of literary works, we always have an attitude toward what we are reading, we are critics without being aware that we are! even when the purpose of reading is mere enjoyment. But the scholars who study and analyze literary texts give names and terms to their theories and methods, all they are trying to do is establish a disciplined and consistent study of literature. Engaging with these various theories and methods can help improve a reader's skill in literary analysis as well as let them see how others read and understand these texts.
