@@kennywilliams4346 Who cares. Everyone in this race were on steroids. Like most 80s races. Mary was a doper who beat other dopers, she won fair and square, and I am not a Decker fan. Now some of the dumb individuals who say "Mary was clean and beat a bunch of dopers" are idiots. If anyone was clean of the top runners it was probably only Wendy Sly and maybe Dorio but none of the rest.

@@ernesttubb As a 17 yr old boy I was watching Seb Coe and Cram and Ovett and Salazar and Aouita. Women’s events were an afterthought. That is until I turned 45 and discovered women’s pole vault, long jump, 400m hurdles 😂. Those events weren’t “stacked”back in the 80s like they are today

@@kennywilliams4346 B**ls**t! Shame on you. It's well known that that test that you're referring to was a full 15 years after this occurred and Mary did eventually after several times of appeals was not found guilty of having taken steroids. And if anything and you want to point fingers you're clearly not up to date and knowledgeable on the state and Nationwide sponsored doping systems of many of the European block countries, specifically but not limited to East Germany and the Soviet Union. So if you want to choose your words wisely I wouldn't just pick a possible accidentally tainted sample that was taken by Mary slaney only once in a very long consistent and illustrious career rather than notoriously time and time again decades long circumstances of suspicions at which Eastern block women look like men which first mandated or made it mandatory that sex tests visual ones be given at European championships world championships and Olympic games and then the bar body genetic test and 68 up until the early ball late 90s or early 2000s. And furthermore we now know everything that East Germany did with regards to training with oral Toronto ball and they're brilliant but twisted medical doctor who figured out a way to make a synthetic testosterone that he could inject all of his athletes with right before they performed at Major meats that when broken down a metabolized did not metabolize into the actual drug it was. And that injection system was used from 74 through 1988. So really you want to call out Mary Decker for one issue I mean if there was a pattern if there was even a second accusation against Mary I would not respond in this manner towards you. But how dare you considering what we know about the press sisters of Soviet Union and the loads of East German women who have now life potentially life-threatening illnesses and issues because of years of forced state-sponsored doping systems

I talked to Mary about a month after this race. She said the Russian woman was elbowing her constantly; you can see Mary turn to her in the final lap to tell her to move out of the way. Then the Russian fell flat on her face, and Mary went up to her afterward and said "you deserved that!" Don't know if she understood English or not but she did deserve that and so glad that Mary won.

The best American was/is will be the great Jim Ryun. Nobody , man or woman comes close to him. I truly belive he did not take drugs. About Slaney - Decker...She was a super talent who I watched running in 1971 at the SovietUnion - USA Track and Field meeting what was held in Leningrad (I think). Mary was 15 years old and she won the 800m race. I don't want to lie here, I think her time was 2:01.5 or something like this. That time was a world class time back then.

I don't know who was doped up and who wasn't. All I know is that distance runners need to be very light and smooth in their stride and Mary was both. She was the greatest runner of her time and one of the greatest of all times. And one more thing. I saw her race with Budd and Budd moved over slightly in front of Mary too soon after getting in front of her. Mary had nowhere to go. And anyone who thinks she was not in severe pain just doesn't deserve a response. I thought what happened was obvious. Mary was at the peak of her career and would have won the race easily. It is a hard thing to see your dream end that way knowing it was yours.

@@mstrunn No because she is horrible all around. "The first 5 runners are all very quick over the last 200 metres." 1 of the first 5 was Wendy Sly who everyone knows is a good runner but has literally no finishing kick at all which was proven in the womens 3000 at the Olympics where she was leading with 200 metres left and Puica of Romania put a whopping 5 seconds on her in the last 200 alone to win easily. "If they keep this up, this is going to be a foot race at the end." No shit Sherlock, 7 womens about together with a lap to go, what else would it be. After the womens 3000 where Mary won over Kazankina "I think Kazankina made a mistake being boxed in before the last lap as I think that cost her a lot of energy to get out, that even when she got out she did not have enough energy left to pass Mary." Nobody chooses to be boxed in, sometimes you get yourself in bad position or boxed in near the end by either bad luck or poor tactics, or a combination of both, but only an idiot would say any runner chooses to be boxed in. Before the womens 400- I am sure Kratochvilova will be tired from her win in the womens 800 so the fight for gold will probably be between the other Czech, Maria, and Marita Payne of Canada." Kratochvilova winds up not only winning but setting a new WR, still 1 of only 2 women who has gone under 48 seconds. Yep she was too tired to contend Madeline alright, brilliant. "Dorio is fighting to get on the outside." She says that while she has a huge trip while already on the outside and falls from 3rd to 6th. The list could go on forever of examples but she is godawful. There is a reason this was her only event.

It wasn't just her initial reaction, she went on National TV and put up a similar blubbering self-centred exhibition. It took her about 20 years to admit she was equally to blame. She's now banned for cheating, but (guess what) she denies it. Somewhat of a speciality of hers - denial.

+Kid Get your facts straight dude, she was reinstated and elected into the Hall of Fame in 2K3, the test gave a false positive and that test is no longer used, stop bashing Mary!

Mary Decker was a studdette...man I don't care if she cried like a baby after falling in the race...In a recent video she says she would cry again if she had fallen and blame zola....Well I blame that goofy zola bud toooo. zola was an average runner who spoiled Deckers victory and glory that come with it.

coolvideos7777: You have a strange idea of what constitutes "average." Zola Budd (who you referred to as "average") won the most difficult to win race on the planet, the World Cross Country Championship TWICE, in 1985 and 86. In order to win that race one needs to beat the top 12 runners from all participating countries, whereas in the Olympics it's only the top 3 and they are divided into several races. Average MY ASS.

Her finest moment on track. Before she disgraced herself and America with her shameful display of poor sportsmanship in 1984. My good opinion of her was lost forever, and my loyalty transferred to the elfin beauty of Zola Budd. :-)

+Kid Once again you are full of crap, most athletes would have done worse, she spoke out of emotion, not being a world class athlete you would know nothing about that would you?

Some average runner she re-wrote the world junior record book, won the world cross country championships more than once, set world records. What did the Decker do.. took drugs to win her world championships, not that other women weren't on drugs too.. but that is something that Zola Budd never stooped to !
