I think all dancers in this movie are gone a long time ago, but a motion picture, our great invention makes it possible to preserve their beauty forever.

I'd like to see some of these dances in slow motion, its very involved and demanding. Really great stuff, ballet in places.

Well done, it seems that nobody is willing to show what does exist, I am told all colour stock is at UCLA, but there seems no move to totally restore the film. The public domain b/w versions are pretty poor. Trying to see these early in the UK at the BFI is rare to say the least, and the UCLA expect you to travel there to view when shown! Unless decent DVD are done soon we are going to lose even more films. Collectors who sit on discoveries are the other problem, mine are forwarded to the BFI.

The scene was edited, and why alternate between colour and black and white?
@michaelmcgee854312 жыл бұрын
For years I knew that the version with color final exist .It was restored by u.c.la.But m.ca is hoarding it from being put on dvd. The restored version that is, like they are hoarding THE TALKING VERSION OF changing of the guard probably,While an un restored public domain is available.Hope the restored version loses it copy right soon, just like follow thru did,so the better version can be sold on dvd

Yeah I've been waiting for the restored version to come to DVD. Its senseless for MCA to withhold an 88 year old film to put it on a dvd. Dumb!

There was always a sequence featuring the Rockettes or a passable imitation. Worth every moment, even if a little smudged. BTW Were those flashes of colour in the original film or were they added later?
@EOCostello4 жыл бұрын
Peter Taylor As far as I know, those flashes are the only surviving color fragments.

@@EOCostello Thanks, EOCostello: That makes sense.

I also wish the companies that do colourisations would consider doing the surviving b/w prints of missing colour films, surely a very simple matter compared to colour from scratch, Computer colour can easily match two colour Technicolor and Multicolor, as to put it bluntly some colourisation looks as bad as Technicolor could...(only a joke), you know what I mean.

was that a naked chick in that one curtain scene before the pickford ballet dance? anyway two words about release, market appeal, and money grubbing media rights owners. If they cant turn a profit then how could they justify restoring it never mind the hundreds of old movies before 1950 that rotted away due to not restoring or forgetting about due to being buried in storage, half before 1950 are gone, whatever they do they need to recognize this is our history in america and it needs saved
