Hi, thanks for your comments. I'm not sure what your point is here. If you listen to the video you'll hear us actually point out to our listeners ourselves that it originated in Russia, (though it was initially in existence as a Russian Folk song long before 1924), so you're not telling us anything we haven't already pointed out ourselves. Why the fact that it was written by a Russian should be a reason for it to be banned I'm really not sure? Musical copyright is rarely extended over 50 years, and the melody of this song was in existence many years before 1924. If you sincerely feel we've breached Copyright please contact KZbin and put your case to them.

Hi Cliff, thanks for your comments. It is a very melancholic song about days gone by isn't it? Some songs affect you like that. I love 'The Green Fields of France', a song written by Eric Bogle, about the First World War. Particularly the version done by the Fureys, an Irish band. But I daredn't play it live, as it sometimes makes me fill up towards the end! Well worth a listen.

Hi Simon, thanks for your message. The song uses a very old Russian melody which, I think invokes feelings of wistful, but long gone memories perfectly. When my wife first suggested we do it I wondered how on earth I'd do the bazouki part on a guitar so had to improvise a bit! At the time we did this recording we were in lockdown and had a promised our listeners that, till lockdown had finished we would learn one song a day, and record it first go. No retakes or effects, and we'd leave in any mistakes or anything else that happened during that one take! It provided some great fun, but became to much of a tie on our time after lockdown finished, so we just do the occasional song now. I didn't know Dolly Parton had recorded it. I'll look it up. But we are still doing the occasional one. Same deal as always - one take only. So the first attempt is what gets posted mistakes and all. We got a new one does this morning which I shall be posting today. It was fight to see if we got recording the song before the cat lost his temper, as he was in a strange mood today. If you listen to it you'll hear him miaowing and scratching at the door mat all through the last verse!! Hi, thanks very much for your very kind comments. It is a very old and very beautiful song. The lyric seems to inspire great feelings of nostalgia for many people. The actual melody is based on a very old Russian folk song, hence the bazouki feel in the music at the beginning ofceach verse. (Sadly I have no bazouki, so had to make do with my attempts on a 12 string guitar!)

Wish we could have spent a bit more time on this one, but our aim was to learn and record a song a day, every day, and publish the first take, throughout the time we were in lockdown. Thanks very much Pete, she was very nervous about posting live videos of first time performances of all these songs for anyone to see! It was supposed to be just for friends and family during lockdown, but sort of grew. We did 100 songs in 100 days and gave ourselves 24 hours to learn each one and then arrange and record it. First take is what we posted each time, mistakes (mainly mine!) and all. Thanks again. All the best.

That's why there's things falling out of cupboards or the cat wanting to go out, the odd forgotten words or chords etc. It was a bit of fun that took off rather more than we expected!!
