Oh My God!! This song is a masterpiece. MJB could have become another casualty to drink and drugs. Her life was spiralling apart, she was heavily depressed and addicted to multiple substances. She released this as her triumphant comeback.

No matter how many times I watch it, this video still gets me. Mary is the emotive queen. A few things about this track: it was from an album that was released right before 9/11 -- those images of War u see are in reference to the beginning of the war on terror. 2. Mary is close with Diddy & Mariah and this was right around the time they both were going thru their own drama, she asked them to cameo in solidarity. And 3. Don't know if you know this but that melody is from the theme music of an old 90s soap opera "The Young and the Restless" -- when we turned this song on and heard that melody, we knew we were in for some shiet! 😁 Thanks for the vid!

One of my favorite Mary J songs because of this video. Beautiful. This came out around September 11th so there was an even heavier impact of the song in the time. Mariah and Diddy had been through a lot professionally and personally leading up to this video so the cameo was playing into that. Mary and Mariah did a song called It’s a Wrap, that’s a fun one combining two of my all time favs. You should check out the song My Life from Mary J too. Actually the whole album is amazing.

Mary sampled the theme song to the soap opera "the young and the restless", hence the lyric "I was young and restless" She included diddy and mariah carey in the video because they had both recently went through public dramas - diddy with legal troubles from a nightclub shooting. You know when it starts off with "The Young and the Restless" soap opera theme song it's going to be good! From what I understand she was coming combating some on demons in her own life and getting rid of the drama that she was going through. She's saying this song at awards show (not sure if it was the Grammys American music awards or what) and she was singing and crying, the audience was crying, I was at home crying! It was about the best performance I have ever seen during any awards program...ever!!

Yup. That was a cameo of Mariah. This song and video came out 2001. A year where the world change. That same year Mariah's first starring movie and accompanying album came out. Glitter. It was a tough year for her ( and everyone else in the world ). It was timely and reasonably appropriate for her to join Mary J. Blige in the video because of the message of the song. Mary J. Blige is a Mariah fan and credits her for changing her life and others in the music industry.

I remember when I first saw this video. It was mid Dec of 2001; when I came home on leave for the first time from the military since starting in July. The first part of the year was very normal, but by the second half it had become very tragic and heartbreaking for just what was going on in the world and my own personal struggles with adapting to a new way of life. This song instantly had an emotional impact on me and was right on time; especially with passing of Aaliyah and Sept 11 happening back to back. I believe Mariah and Diddy were in the video because it was a tough year for them personally as well (Mariah’s mental breakdown and Diddy facing jail time). This song just resonated so much with the time and always hits the same whenever I hear it or see the video for it. This is probably my favorite MJB song and video, nothing short of a legendary impactful moment in music history. ❤️

this is by far one of my favorites by Mary (and yes affectionately known as The Queen of Hip Hop Soul)... her message is so powerful and my favorite line is... "It's up to us weither we win or lose and I CHOOSE to win" Not saying this song was about a past love (you've also reacted to...K~Ci of Jodeci & later K~Ci & JoJo) but their 10+ year relationship was extremely toxic not to mention her troubled childhood and unfortunately marriage/divorce afterwards. She's extremely relatable and it shows through her music 💕

Mary J is incredible! You should react to some of her other deep songs like Your Child, Deep Inside, Take Me As I Am, Be Happy, Mr Wrong ft Drake, Runaway Love by Ludacris ft Mary J Blige, and 911 by Wyclef Jean ft Mary J Blige. You should also react to some of her songs that don't have videos like My Life. Mary has been through alot in her life from domestic abuse, alcoholism, drug abuse, cheating, divorce, and even suicide attempts but she's always used her voice to help others who may be also going through something. Her voice is powerful and so is her messages. A person may not necessarily be going through what she has been through but everyone can feel her pain because she puts so much emotion into every song. These are some of her deeper songs...she does have some really fun songs too like Family Affair, Just Fine, and The One ft Drake. I hope she makes a song about what's going on in the world right now because a voice like hers is really needed right now. I hope both Mary and Mariah make songs about this scary time we are living in today because the emotion in both of their voices can tell the stories of so many.
