It is watching the emotion pour from her face that leaves me moved to write this. She is blessed with a voice that is angelic and fun but wow does she ever nail this!

Really a brilliant delivery of a marvellous song. Mary Ramsey is, to me, a jazz/torch singer whose talents are wasted when she does rock/pop songs. Were I to live in proximity to this group it would a treat to see them live. One in a million singer. Sweet to find someone , by accident, such as her on youtube. This medium has certainly made it possible for all of us music lovers to hear music and musicians that would otherwise be unavailable to us and lost memory.

I used to see John & Mary now and again. She did a version of the old song "Smile" in French that was so incredibly lovely.

Mary moved over from violist to vocalist when Natale left 10,000 maniacs and has ably filled in some big shoes. I have seen 10K Maniacs many times but I have never heard her sing with this kind of emotion and beauty..

Hal David and Paul Hampton? ... I'm fairly certain that it's a Don Gibson tune ... Thanks so much for your kind comment ... Mary was flattered!

The very same Hal David who wrote all those bubbly pop songs with Burt Bacharach. Hal David was an amazingly versatile guy. They published the song in 1960 and it was a hit by Don Gibson in 1961. Gibson was himself a great songwriter but he did not write this one.

I had the pleasure of seeing Mary when she supported 10,000 Maniacs, when Natalie was still with the group, then the joy of her succeeding as vocalist for the group.

Too bad its not on youtube. Her forte is ballads and non busy songs. Smile ,by her, would be perfect.

Don Gibson's original version, in 1961 I think, was the best, followed by the Searchers' recording a few years later.
