Mary's Blood - World's End REACTION & REVIEW! FIRST TIME HEARING!

Saw MB live many times over the years but not this time, regrettably. This was 24 June 2018 at MyNavi Blitz in Tokyo, from their Make the New World Tour. “World’s End” was the opening song of the set. I did see them play this song a couple months earlier that year at Naon no Yaon (female rockers’ fest) and several other occasions. Certainly not a little-known song to any MB fan.

They have 4 Blu-rays with this track on, one from their final concert before going on hiatus, where this was the second track of the set and one (I think this one) from a 2018 concert where it was the opening track after an intro. There are also 2 where it is about in the middle of the set. I am pretty sure this is the 2018 concert, because the couple of seconds of sound before the track sound like an intro. I own all of those Blu-rays but it has been too long since I watched them to know for sure. As far as if this is a known track goes, I wouldn't consider myself a massive Mary's Blood fan and I don't own the album this is on nor did I recognize the name of the track, but I recognized the track when it started playing. I might have watched a drum playthrough by the drummer last year or something because I don't know where else I have heard it not too long ago. It also seems to be on their best-of album they released before going on hiatus, so I assume it is a pretty known track overall. I really like this track without question.

Nice reaction! Can't disagree with the observation that it was very dark. Can't speak to exactly how big a hit it was in Japan when it came out 8-10 years ago, but I would say while it's not their biggest hit it's definitely not an obscure unknown song either. So the audience was probably very familiar with it. Given the darkness you mentioned I could not clearly make out the backdrop but it looked like the album cover to their album Revenant (also going by Saki's hair I think it was that show). If that's the case hopefully it was a relatively recent upload and someone is reuploading tracks from that show. Mary's Blood changed labels during the pandemic and when they did that their new label had most if not all of the videos of their 2010s shows that had been uploaded to You Tube pre-pandemic taken down (other than the official channel of course), and although some of those videos have been re-uploaded, most have still not. If this is the show I think it is, there is one particular track form this show that is highly memorable as a very unique performance that alas is no longer up there.

World’s End is the opening song for their fourth album Revenant in 2018. It’s a good album, they learned their lesson from going in the wrong way with the previous album Fate, but by 2018 they were already surpassed by LOVEBITES as the best female metal band from Japan. On the last album “ Mary’s Blood” they returned to their metal roots. Unfortunately Mary’s Blood went on an indefinite hiatus due to Saki’s activities in Nemophila. 😢

Saki wanting to focus on Nemophila (which ironically enough she has since also left) was clearly a major factor in Mary's Blood ending when they did, but if you read between the lines of the announcement about the "hiatus" Eye and Mari seemed ready for a break as well... otherwise, as much as I love Saki, I'm sure Mary's Blood could have found another guitarist and kept going. Saki herself is not an original Mary's Blood member after all (even if the lion's share of their success came after she and RIO joined). I think it was more of a factor that after all those years they all wanted to try something new, with Nemophila's massive breakout success just giving the final push to something that had maybe been coming for awhile.
