Maryland Pre-Trip Inspection for School Bus - 2022

Maryland pre-trip inspection for School Bus. As of August 2022 Maryland MVA has change the way they do the pre-trip inspection on a school bus. You can now use a checklist to do you a pre-trip inspection. As you mentioned the item give small details about it check it off on the checklist so you don’t have to repeat it again. The MVA also want you to stay in the order of the checklist.
Make sure you have your seatbelt on prior to doing the air brake exam as well as before you attempt to move the vehicle make sure you have your seatbelt on and secure.

I can’t believe how different a air brake test in other states. Our air brake tests are different.

On ours we chock the wheels build pressure to 120-140 then cut the bus off, turn the bus on, watch the gauges make sure it doesn’t drop more than 2 psi in 1 minute then press and hold the brake and make sure it doesn’t drop more than 3psi in a min then pump them down between 60-65 psi the warning buzzer and light goes off continue until the brake sets between 25-40 psi remove the chocks. Then start the bus up buzzer and warning lights go off around 60-65 psi then at 85 psi we have to make sure it goes from 85psi to 100psi in 45 seconds. When the governor cuts off around 120-125psi you pump them back down to 90psi to make sure your compressor kicks back on and when it gets back to 120-125 psi you pull against the service brake then pull forward at 5 miles per hour and hit the brake make sure it isn’t pulling left to right then it’s over.

All that work for 400$ a week. They pay 16 an hr to 25 n hr theses days. 5 days no more then 20 or 25 hrs a week. If you make 550 a week bring home is 480, you can do 2nd job but this take a whole day from you.

When are you supposed to remove the chock from the wheel ? From looking at the video you never remove the chock i do not want to run it over the chock and fail when letting the vehicle roll 5mp and stop

Hello….. Maryland wants you to perform the Airbrake test first before inspecting the rest of the vehicle. They pretty much want it done in the order shown on the video.

You only have to inspect brake hose, brake line and mention that there’s no grease or oil on the brakes.

If you’re testing in Maryland you have to pre-trip the entire vehicle to get the Airbrake endorsement. That change took place in September
