-- I think Ed does care about Oswald very much. Before they split, Ed really considered Oswald to be his only and best friend. And even after they start hurting each other, Oswald still means so much to Ed. In my opinion, Oswald means too much to Ed, so he has to get rid of him. Ed wants to be an equal to Oswald, but he doesn't know how to be an equal with Oswald's influence on him. Therefore, when things went bad and Ed couldn't ignore his self-esteem issue any more, Ed chose to get rid of Oz because his need to be free of Oswald's influence became unbearable. It's hard to tell what Ed has for Oswald is love or not, but I think he regards Oswald as a very important one in his life.
