On a serious note, the issue most people have with Marzipan is that they're not consuming actual Marzipan. High quality almonds are a quite expensive ingredient, so a lot (if not most) Marzipan products don't actually use almonds but the cheaper apricot or peach kernels. This substitute product is called Persipan and often falsely advertised as Marzipan. It's outright nasty and unfortunately, almost all factory made Christmas treats out of the German speaking regions in Europe use Persipan instead of Marzipan now, covering up for the gross taste by adding more sugar (another cheap ingredient). The best actual Marzipan products out of Germany originate from a manufacturer in Lübeck.

When my great grandmother, a German immigrant, died in 2003, I got to keep the little marzipan pig I'd always admired on her display (I was 9 when she died). The expiration date on it is July 1991 and I still have it. Marzipan is forever.

Same! I love Ritter sport. People think I’m crazy that it’s my go-to candy! My grandmother was Austrian so she brought some home from Veinna when I was a child. This video is so hilarious because most people think it’s disgusting! 😂 Similar to Turkish Delight. The stuff we get in the US is disgusting. But getting it fresh in Turkey, it is quite good.

I personally love marzipan. They neglected to mention that is is loaded with sugar. It’s like if orgeat syrup was a solid treat, or simply bear claw filling. I personally like to have Ritter Sport’s dark chocolate filled with marzipan. It’s dairy-free, for those of us who are allergic 😃 My mom is from a country that has these lovely confections, so I appreciate the shout out 🤗
